Will go from XP to Windows 7. Just like I did from Windows98 to XP, bypassing windows2000

I was using XP up to about 6 month ago. Vista was horrible when it first came out, but I have to say that now with SP1 and better drivers, Vista x64 runs really really well on my Q6600 w/ 4GB Ram. I'm dual booting my Vista and Win 7 RC, but I think I just need a few days to update my stuff and I'll probably only windows 7. Btw, those who notice the bad quality of h264 on Win 7 in MPC and VLC (it's really much better in Vista), try divx 7.0, it works great at much better quality. And dont mess with an old deamon tools or you might face a reinstall.

I'll once again compare gaming performance. I compared Vista to XP Pro, it lost by more than I had thought so I stayed with XP. What I read and hear about Windows 7 indicates it's going to be better, so I'll once again make dual fresh installs, and see which performs better. Then remove the looser.

Man, I'm on the edge of my seat waiting for Win 7 to come out so I can justify upgrading my main machine to a Core i7/SSD with Win7, take the spare parts and build a HTPC with Win7, take my current slow HTPC and make a nice kitchen media machine (with touchscreen?) with Win7. Really this is just the product of too much planning, but it should be sweet.

Waiting to find out if Vista X64 will get the DX11 update and if there will be any kind of upgrade price break from Vista to 7. Not too happy that they are pretty much abandoning Vista after all the hype and being a late adopter, feel like I've been had, like buying a Norton Product that fails to work after a windows service pack update, only find out they aren't fixing their current version, but will sell you their next version.

[citation][nom]SDSUMarcus01[/nom]I dual booted windows 7 RC with xp and after just an hour I deleted the partitions and re-installed only windows 7.So yes, I'll be moving to windows 7.[/citation]

hahaha... i just did the exact same thing! will definitely settle down on win7 dual-boot with ubuntu :)

I that Windows 7 was great and I enjoyed using it for the short time I had it installed..........but after two days, I am back with XP.

Why?....because Punkbuster refuses to upgrade their program for Windows 7 thus making CoD4 and other online games unplayable.

I'll probably go with windows 7 shortly after it's release, especially if XP virtualization works well. I currently have one home computer with Vista Ultimate x64 and a 7 year old notebook with XP. Some hardware will only work with XP.

I was one of the people who upgrades to Windows Vista early on, and I've been really satisfied with everything that it offers. Windows 7 seems to offer even more to enjoy, and I like working with new software, so I'll definitely be picking that up early on too.

IMO. Win7 is faster than Vista on the SAME hardware. Here soon when I get around to it I think I'm gonna do some game performance testing between win7, Vista, and ubuntu (9.04) so we will see how it REALLY stacks up.

My main computer has ubuntu on it (9.04) so it will not be getting win7 (ever). My work computer currently is dual boot vista/win7 (needed for cad).

btw, as far as analogies go, I see Vista as the windows ME and win7 as the Xp (cause if you remember ME was a flop and xp took some of the stuff from ME and improved it, much like win7).

Vista on one machine, XP on the others.

All will probably be migrated to 7 shortly after launch, although I might wait. No real reason since I get my keys though MSDN.

I have an XP machine now (an old P4) and I'm getting a new machine this fall. So probably I'll get 7 on that one :)

My XP machine is for HTPC and gaming. I don't have Vista (had no need to upgrade).

I'm not going to upgrade the XP rig until I have a need for a newer OS (i.e. apps/games not working or unavailable for XP). It works fine and is pretty snappy.

For my daily tasks I use my Mac (email, surfing, etc -- everything except games. OSX sucks at gaming).

I am running 3 xp os home,32,64. I will probably put win7 on my desktop with the win64 I am still upgradeing that one. I would like to venture forward with Linex as well but things are tight so uprade first then my hand may be forced to go win7 depending on latest game requirements, I have been missing out on running games with dx10 but thats the price for win xp64
Gaz

Contrary to what many had said, I believe Vista has been an excellent OS (at least by windows standards). And from what i have experienced and heard about Vista's successor, Windows 7 so far, I have been quite impressed by security features and performance it has brought with itself. I am definitely going for it.
