QOTD: Are You Going Windows 7 from Vista or XP?

I know that I will be. Only one PC in my house has Vista, and we've been waiting for the "full version" of Vista (which is what we are calling 7) since Vista came out.

I do expect some businesses will transition to. Really, its the only way to get them out of their old software licenses: they kept XP to use their old software, and therefor most of the newer software won't run (or eventually won't run) on their systems, which will make businesses get into the mentality of never ugprading. By offering Enterpise and Ultimate with XPM, they can get businesses into an OS that will continue to support new software, which will mean that when a business is making the decision to upgrade, they won't be saying "well it doesn't work with our OS, can't use it."

I guess if you have some warped idea of what "useful" is. The new taskbar greatly increases multitasking abilities which is something I find useful. Streaming audio libraries across the internet is something I consider useful. Improved networking (vastly improved over XP) especially wi-fi is something I consider useful. Search in the start menu is something I consider useful. Vastly improved file management over XP and Vista is something I consider useful. Plug and play driver installation is something I consider useful. Jump lists are something I consider useful.

Do I need to keep going? I don't know how you can't find useful features in Windows 7 or Vista when compared to XP.
 
I might have been one of the lucky few with Vista. All this talk about Vista being all screwed up and that it should have never been released. I purchased Vista ultimate the day it was released and in all that time. I HAVE HAD ONLY 1 MAJOR CRASH. BSOD one time. After a quick reboot it was due to a display adapter driver. I basically leave my main box on 24/7. I have 4 machines in my house 2 laptops 2 desktops. I have been running windows 7 since the first public release without any major problems. So far the only thing i can complain about is the entire FTP setup. I havent been able to get Filezilla Server working correctly. I can conect locally but not remotely. As far as upgrading 2 of the machines now have RC1 in them and the 2 XP machines will get 7 as well.
 
Ill keep xp thanks, windows vista does nothing for me but add more drm and bloat, windows 7 does nothing for me but add more drm and bloat.

They can keep it.
 
I went from windows 32 bit -> windows 64 bit -> vista 64 bit -> BACK to windows 64 bit -> and now I'm at windows 7 64 bit RC. I plan to stay with RC. It works well, is pretty fast, and doesn't waste resources like vista.
 
strangely, i've found myself defending vista quite a bit lately. i don't love it...and have been describing it's failures somewhat due to Microsoft -- not making the hardware requirement strict enough -- and manufacturers not giving machines the hardware they knew was necessary to run Vista adequately, despite the MS provided minimum specification for 'Vista Ready' and 'Vista Capable'. on capable machines, i've not had much trouble with Vista, honestly.

i use it at work, along with xp quite a bit...and have been beta and rc testing 7 as the primary OS for a 7/vista/ubuntu triple boot laptop for a while now.

so, realistically, i'll not be upgrading any OS to 7; but putting new machines which ship with 7 on them into production.
 
put windows 7 on my old dell laptop works very well. tried vista for two days constant crashes do to driver issues so i went back to xp. window 7 worked with no driver issues. kaspersky also gives you a 6 month try!!
 
From XP to 7.

Was thinking of getting Vista for some time now for the sole purpose of DX10 gaming. But since Win 7 news kept surfacing last year I have decided to wait.
 
Windows xp all the way until windows 8 comes up or other free os better then windows. Windows 7 is a bad product that uses mass manipulation so that people change from xp to win7 but win7 is just vista + fix + pr stunt.
 
7 (let's just drop the "Windows" moniker, and stick with "7") is amazing for its quality, even at this stage of the game. Microsoft should get some credit. I'll upgrade to 7...from Vista, because I'm an early adopter. ...but Vista is running GREAT too, so its not like I'm trying to fix something that's broken. I really hope that everything I want to use works in 7, but so far so good.

When I go back to using XP its like "Ugggghh...where are the features" I'm happy for the XP folks because they're not only going to get the power that 7 offers some really slick features and a contemporary interface.

Went from vista 64 to win 7 rc ... it still has bugs though.
This morning when I powered on the windows event log system failed to load. Causing delays of up to serveral minutes before it'd continue loading. Took 8 minutes to get a task bar, and another 9 minutes before I was able to hit the shutdown button. Probably some 5 more minutes to shut down. Next reboot all is fine.
 
First i'll wait to see how stable and secure is it.
Then probably i'll wait for SP1.
Installing in a blind way will could an awful Vista experience again...
 
No real reason to upgrade from XP to Vista or 7.
directx10 is one but that's about it and there haven't been any great games lately anyways.
You might hope that x64 is another reason but there are still only a handful of programs that run it and they are not noticabley faster.

- Neither Vista or 7 are faster than XP overall.
Not even with all the new bloat disabled.

- Explorer has had some major improvements and some other changes that are so aweful they overshadow the good points.
Bring back the up one folder button and the old thumbnails for folders.

- Control Panel, It's getting so dumbed down that soon you won't be able to direct link to anything without going through a troubleshooter.
Try something as simple as disabling and re-enabling your lan..

- New Libraries folder system is just plain a stupid idea.
They tryed to copy something from Mac's and Linux. That was the only purpose behind this.

- New taskbar although inspiring at first actually makes it more difficult to navigate and keep a grasp of what's open and what's what in the taskbar. Even when switched to act as much like XP as possible.
 
I tried to move to Vista 3 times and gave up each time in less than a couple of months. I just installed the W7RC and am surprised and impressed I would actually pay for it in it's current state before I would use a free copy of Vista.
 
I loaded Win7 RC yesterday in a 5yr old AMD 3200+ machine. It looks great compared to XP but performance no better. Some driver issues but resolved easily (printer, video and audio). Interface not as good as XP but lots better than Vista. Probably going back to XP
