QOTD: PlayStation Move or Kinect for Xbox 360?

I'd get the Kinect for my GF... she's always jumping around in the house. Move is more my thing.

I won't be getting either tho, not worth it for me.
 
Frankly, I would have chosen a combination of both. The Kinect with a Move controller (without the gay bulb). The possibilities would be endless! Lethal Enforcer 2, anyone?
 
Personally I think "Kinect" is an awesome name. A lot more creative and logical than the PS3 "Move." Sorta of misleading when in reality you don't have to move much at all just like the Wii. Personally I found the Wii lacking as far as motion controls go. Ya sure you have buttons but to be honest if I want next gen tech I don't want buttons and a controller in hand. I think the 360 Kinect has a lot more freedom in the future of programming because it's software analyzing real world events.

The only game that you listed the Kinect couldn't do was Killzone 3 because it's a Sony Exclusive. Otherwise Dead Space and Resident Evil are both cross platform games. The 360 still has some overhead to process the information coming in. Not to mention developers continue to optimize their games more and more.

Those comparing the $150 price point of Kinect to the $99-$120 price point of Move, saying the Move is a better buy. Wow... I'm shocked at the lack of logic behind that. The Kinect is $150, that's it, boom done. If you want 1 player.. $150.. if you want 2 players.. same price. If you want 3 or more with limited play like game shows or what not... it's still the base price. The Move is $120 for a full bundle with chuk for 1 player. You want 2 players with full capabilities? That will cost you $200. If you want 4 players (limited play) on the Move, you're lookin at adding another $100 to that for 2 more wands. The Kinect is a better price in the long run due to the fact that the most popular games that use motion control are the goofy party games.

For those that say that the Kinect can't do fps? Says who? Are you a programmer? and if so are you one that has developed on the Kinect platform so far? No? Then don't rule it out. If the camera can track your eyes, it may be able to track a trigger finger. You never know. It's all up to the developers.

Personally I pick the Kinect as the overall winner because it's something new and different. It's not a blatant ripoff as Move is to the Wii. Might as well call the Move, Pachter's Wii HD. This isn't even taking into effect the controls the Kinect adds to the home entertainment such as hand gestures and voice control. You might not even need a keypad to message someone on the 360 anymore as it could display a keyboard on the screen then a representation of your hands in the air. It would be like typing on a touch screen but it would be the air. Can't track fingers with the Move so have fun pointing with your Wii mote.

Anyways... for all those nay sayers out there about the kinect. You're either being egocentric that it's not hardcore enough. It's not supposed to be. Or that it's tech is limited because it's not a controller. Where in fact it's not limited due to the fact there is no controller You're being closed minded about the possibilities.

I guess in the end we'll see which one is the better. But for me I already owned a Wii and I currently own the 360 and PS3. If I'm going to get any motion controlling device it will be the Kinect. It's far more innovative than a light up wiimote.

Having said that, my choice would be Kinect.
I have both PS3 and Xbox 360 btw.

Watching both keynote presentations I'm looking at the games, basically the implementation of the motion controllers. I can already pick two-three games from Xbox, Kinect Adventures, Dance Central and maybe Your Shape. None of those games can be possible with the move. And it looks fun!

Move tries to get to the hardcore gamers. Hardcore gamers use controllers better for FPS is not a gun, it's mouse and keyboard! Everyone agrees with me! I played CoD on Wii, after 5 minutes, I'm done holding that gun up! forget the lack of accuracy, it's just tiring 🙁

I will have to wait for a killer game b4 picking up the Move, especially the price! for me to play the boxing or volleyball game will cost me $99 bundle plus $40 for second Move. That's $149. If Kinect cost the same, it's an amazing value because you can play with multiple people and control the whole dashboard with it!

Now imagine playing FPS with the controller but when you lean, you can peek through the hall way! Sweet!!
 
Kinect all the way. The ability to use it as a gesture based navigation super remote control make it worth the money alone. When you add little things like facial recognition for auto sign-in, voice commands, etc... it will revolutionize the way you control your entertainment. It is the little things that will make it invaluable. One you have them you would not want to go back to the clunky manual button style of navigation, login, and such.
It was not the hardware or even the apps that really made the iPhone, it was the new take on user interaction based on touch. If this works like the demos show, I think it will revolutionize user interaction in the home entertainment market.

who ever said you can't use a controller when using Kinect? I wouldn't doubt the options will be there to do both.

Really - who's to say some additional inexpensive (or free bundled) controllers won't come out for games like this as well? Look at all the gimmicky controller add-ons that came along for the Wiimote. Now imagine a gun shaped controller with a few buttons for firing/selecting your weapons. I recall Scene-it Box Office Smash came with FOUR simple controllers and was only $30. Kinect would already be able to track your body movements and know where you're pointing the gun, and you'd have buttons for the tactile response. The possibilities would really become limitless.
 
Honestly Move looks like you are holding the fairy godmothers wand.

I would go with Kinect just because you don't have to buy more peripherals.
 
When I see the Kinect demos I don't think of it in gaming at all but instead I imagine if they'll make a computer version for it. PCs controlled by gestures, anyone?
 
Just because a game uses Kinect, that doesn't rule out the ability to use a controller with it. Think about it: all the buttons you want for an FPS or whatever, along with the ability to have the game interpret your body movements when appropriate. FAR SUPERIOR to the Move IMHO.
 
I have all three systems in the house. 2 Wii controllers, 3 PS3 Controllers, 4 Xbox 360 controllers and now Sony wants me to add 3 or more move controllers to that so I can support multiplayer? If I go with any of them I'd go with the Kinect. My adding the Wii was to please my wife who is non-technical and she honestly finds the controllers of the PS3 and 360 easier to use and far more responsive than the motion based control of the Wii with it's horrible precision.
 
Repeat after me.. Kinect is not an overpriced USB webcam like the EyeToy. And to be frank I dislike all consoles so to me the only intersting one is the technology in Kinect. So if I can get it doing 3D scanning or gesture recog, or reliable voice reocg then it might find a home on my Win7 HTPC or my robot for that matter. That way I can have my robot track down all the people using that lame glowy Move controller and shoot them with it's airsoft gun.. Hows that for using Kinect in a FPS game. Headshot!
 
I vote for Kinect. Most likely I will buy neither. Move is a Wii controller for the PS3 -- why anyone would want to play "normal" games with this, I can't imagine. Same goes for Kinect.

My belief is that Kinect will draw in new buyers based on the interface -- Wii Wand & Chuck thing has been done. Adoption by traditional players will likely be very for both. Kinect tech has the potential to attract those that are soft in the head, similar to the iPhone effect. M$ needs to backfill with interesting games now.
 
I have both and I think I would get the Move over Kinetic. I have been reading that it won't work sitting down so for RPG's and driving games... well not so fun to stand for a few hrs. Also how do you apply the gas when you are driving, and have you held our arms out in the air in front of you for 30 mins pretending to drive? It burns your shoulders! At least with move I can probably rest my elbows on a coffee table or my knees or something to give it a bit of a rest.
 
It took both companies, what, 3 years to finally come up with competition to the Wii that no one wanted (On the 360 or PS3 anyway)?
Maybe I really missed the boat, or an entire naval fleet, but I don't remember anyone really pining for this.
Adult gamers, the demographic for the PS3 and 360, seem to be happy with their controllers.
I would assume that anyone interested in this technology and the type of game behind it would've bought the Wii by now.
I don't see this working too well on adult games, maybe a few, but not enough to make it very popular.
That said, I'd choose the Kinect, use it for whatever title it might actually work well for.. once, and then put it away forever,it's at least attempting to do something different, not just force you to use a new controller in a silly way, already done by someone else (and probably better) with a library for it.
 
Move - all the way! Kinect is completely unpractical. It will not work for most games. You need physical buttons for most games. There is no way around that at least not with a camera. Even for games Kinect will sort of work for, try punching in the air for 1 minutes straight and see how it feels. Imagine playing a whole game that way!!! Do they even try this stuff???
 
I think that if you look at it from a non-biased view point then its easy to see that The Move is just a much better solution for most games because most games need buttons and kinect cant give you that, and i own a 360 not a ps3.
 
MOVE all the way, there is a ( lets call it ) Motion lag in Kinect, which to me would make it feel like I not full in control, the Move is said to be real time, ( or so responsive ) you can't notice any delay. Which imo, is very important.
 
I'm getting the kinect first only because it seems a bit more innovative then move. The move is literally a copy of the Wii but it seems a bit more precise on the tech then the Wii. Hands down i own both systems and i will buy both, they both offer a different experience and offer HD quality games, with amazing graphics something the Wii can never do. The pricing on the "Move" is whats making me choose the Kinect over the move. It's cheaper and i can have 3 other friends join in for the same price of $!50. While if you think about it will cost roughly $300-$400 just so i can have fun with 3 other friends. This will be an interesting year for Sony and Microsoft.

You drastically misread what I was saying..

I was saying that IT IS possible depending on the programmers to have the Kinect be good for FPS. I was posing a question to all the nay sayers out there that aren't programmers or even how the Kinect generally works.

I agree with you completely about the possibility of new cheap addons. But in reality the Kinect would just need to recognize an object as a gun.. it would draw the axis along the barrel. It could be a paper towel roll.. a mop handle.. and arm.. or even a nerf gun. Once it recognizes it it could plot the trajectory of your aim. SO once again it falls upon the developers.
