Mario NES is the first game that got me into gaming. Tetris is what got me into casual game. Starcraft is that got me into competitive multiplayer online strategy. Pokemon is what suck me into gameboy. Street Fighter II Turbo is what got me into fighting game. FinalFantasy IX is what got me into RPG. Doom is what got me into FPS. Diablo II is what got me into MMORPG. Halo/COD4 is what got me back on track with FPS. Need I say more?

That's tough. I've been playing PC games since the days of Lemonade Stand and Zork. I'm going to have to do a list:

Half Life - the first FPS I ever loved.
Wizardry 7: Crusaders of the Dark Savant
Wing Commander
Fallout 2
Star Flight 2

Wow, too many pages to read (maybe later, don't have time right now).
And yes, it is tough. Can't narrow it down. Been PC gaming since I was 10 (an Atari 800XL was a PC, then got a 486 15 years ago).

TIE Fighter was my all time first favorite.
Heroes of Might and Magic 2&3 was my second favorite(2 for graphics and atmosphere, 3 for fully perfected gameplay and balance).
My last and final favorite. Diablo II and many mods that came out (thus my name obviously).

Notice these came from 3 totally different genres. Action, strategy, RGP (though action based).

I haven't mentioned an FPS! How about the orignal Wolfensteing 3D. Sorry, like it even more then Doom, but DooM is higher on my list then any other FPS otherwise.

The Civ and MOO series' aren't games. They're highly addictive drugs which should be declared illegal except in Amsterdam and international waters. =p

Easy question for me...

Age of Empire 2: The Age of Kings (& Age of Empires 2: The Conquerors)

...nothing like a good 3 hours death match on the zone.com or a Frank rush or repelling a Frank rush! I used to spend hours testing unique units against each other on multiple PC's.

and Guild Wars (& Guild Wars Factions)

...right under these two would be Auto Assault and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. Miss Auto Assault, still play Vanguard.

...honorable mentions:
X-Wing vs Tie Fighter (had soo much fun with this game also on the zone.com)

Age of Empires (& Age of Empires: The Rise of Rome) ...nothing like the original micro-managing!

Star Wars: Galactic Battleground (& Clone Campaigns)

...if you can't tell I like RTS games (or just about any game involving strategy) and Ensemble Studios had a great engine and knew how to do strategy right. some of the most advanced rock, paper, scissors you can ever play! also I used to almost strictly look for multiplayer pc games with the zone.com tag on the box so I knew I could play them there. was sad when microsoft changed that place from what it used to be. had a lot of people there I gamed with. heck for that matter they closed Ensemble Studios to. damn that microsoft!

I would also throw in Guild Wars Nightfall and Guild Wars Eye of the North for honorable mention to.

Btw, some of the pevious posters need to read the QOTD again! It says Favorite PC Game not NES or N64 or console game at all for the matter.

Ah, so much fun reading everyone's favorites. I forgot to mention one game that I played 'seriously' in a squad, Operation Flashpoint. Had some very intense moments with that game.

I saw Global Operations mentioned, wow, how could I have forgotten. Terrific game, nice concept. Also spent lots of time with Joint Operations (original name, eh? :)

Ah, Homeworld. These guys were (are) geniuses. The atmosphere was so 'spacey' and the 3D navigation so smooth it looked like a movie or as if you were truly there. The intro scenes of the mothership preparing for departure were awesome. Wow. I have this whole binder full of games. Good memories. I probably should play some of these old games again.

Who's in with me to petition LucasArts to re-release the whole X Wing series. Plenty of people here have mentioned it. I wish I could run it on something, I tried a year or so ago from a torrent, but the sound was a no-go. Brings back memories of 9-pin serial and 15-pin midi game controllers.

RPG: Eye of the Beholder, Wizardry 7, Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind Dale 1 & 2, Fallout 1 & 2
Action: R-Type, Privateer, Doom 1 & 2, Duke Nukem 3D, System Shock 1 & 2, STALKER:SoC
Strategy: Dune 2, UFO: Enemy Unknown, Heroes of Might and Magic series

Half Life! Ground-breaking "realism". A story line that made sense. Neat weapons. Still play it at times after all these years!

Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn

Old school Bioware is where it's at! 🙂

Ultima series, bards tale, fallout, Phantasie, wasteland, Kings Quest, tons of other PC games. Been playing since the early Apple II days...

Starcraft, spent countless hours on that game and it was the game of choice for LAN parties back in high school. I still remember nuking a fleet of my friends carriers, followed by ooooh's from my friends. Then a quick disconnect by the person who was nuked. lol, good times

1. Shogo MAD
2. Duke Nukem
3. Unreal and Unreal:Return to napali
4. Need for speed: Most wanted
5. Stalker Oblivion lost
6. Stalker Priboi story.

Starcraft was the best. still is. a lot of folks are still playing it and it is so playable.
