Hi guys,
I am going to be installing Win XP on my new system soon. Although it will have lots of horsepower (MSI K7T266 Pro 2 mobo, Athlon 1600+ CPU, 512 Crucial DDR RAM) I don't really want to trade too much of it off for the eye candy.
Today I was in a computer store looking at XP on a P4 1.3 G system with 256 Ram and I noticed that the desktop seemed "sluggish". When ever I looked at a menu (ie. display properties) it sort of poured down the screeen and didn't "snap" onto the screen like I would have thought. Is this sluggish performance or is the XP interface supposed to be that way?
When I am installing are there many unnecessary features that will get installed that are just a waste of resources?
Tia for any tips and info.
Gary

Good question.

It's actually an option. You can turn it all off if you want, but it doesn't really bother me. There are options for just about all the eye candy you see so if you want the os to look like the old 2000 or 98 then you can just change the skin.

I missed part of your question..

If you think it's slowing you down you can make it respond faster without the shadows and slugishness that bothers you. It'll snap if you tell it :)
