I am wanting to upgrade my FX-8350 build with a Ryzen 9 3900X build due to the insane performance at a reasonable cost. I already have 4x4GB ECC 2133MHz DDR4 lying around (SK hynix KOREA 4GB 1Rx8 PC4-2133P-RD0-10), a Strix 970, an RM650 PSU, a NH-D15 and a Silent Base 800 case.

I am just getting really confused with all the motherboards out there, and which ones can support ECC, support this CPU, and trying to not get one which has features I don't need. I probably won't be doing any extreme overclocking (just enabling Precision Boost Overdrive will be fine by me) but all the motherboards have confusing names, and I'm getting into a muddle trying to find a good motherboard that can house the CPU and all the other components.

So basically I would like to pay <£200 (preferably nearer to £100) for ECC support, support for the Ryzen 9 3900X, and a little overclocking headroom with Precision Boost Overdrive.

Please can somebody help navigate me through the sea of confusion around motherboard shopping

Thanks in advance :)

2133mhz is insanely slow for ryzen and it will cripple ryzens performance. Also, the ram is in a 4 stick config, which will be slower than 2 sticks on ryzen.

You need above 3200mhz ram in a 2 stick config.

Id sell the ECC, buy a 2x8gb ddr4 3600mhz kit, and buy a normal non-ecc board.

Thank you for the quick reply! I didn't think about 4 sticks being slow with dual channel and yeah I've heard Ryzen loves memory clock! Thank you for the parts list I will look into those ASAP!!

As for RAM speed, will it run 3600 MHz right out of the box or do I have to enable XMP? I only have experience with 800 MHz and 1066 MHz DDR3! xD
