Everybody is replaceable, but it's hard to imagine someone doing a better job in Steve Jobs' place. I hope he left behind a lot of Apple product plans and designs, which will be made and launched in the next few years.
Cancer rarely has a happy ending, but I really didn't expect to see one of the wealthiest people brought down by it so quickly. RIP.

[citation][nom]omnimodis78[/nom] He wasn't even a philanthropist...[/citation]
wow... just wow....

Just because others brag about how many millions they gave to charity even though it doesn't even slightly affect their extravagant lifestyle, doesn't mean that Jobs might not be an anonymous donor.
Maybe he left part or all of his fortune to charity. Ever thought about that?

[citation][nom]del35[/nom]Although I hated Mr Job in life I hope he rests in peace. Hopefully the setback he unleashed for the march of open standards in technology will soon also come to pass. One thing I thank Mr Jobs for is for making me and many smart observers realize that hype can be more valuable than substance; and that for very many people casing is more valuable than content.[/citation]

Ey? Apple always supported open standards and open source.
OpenCL, WebKit, OS X and iOS are based on open source Darwin, they pushed HTML5, etc.

I don't see how people could have spent any moment of their lives hating Jobs after all there are very cruel and terrible people in this world who have done worse things. I do hate his company and some of the products that it created but what I hate the most was how it treated people in third world nations that were unlucky to have worked making their products. Their closed policies towards common knowledge and growth of the industry as a whole has done more harm than good. The golden age for Apple is nearing it's close and what was once the thing to have that set one apart from everyone else has become an common item amongst many. It is time for new people and new companies to make the next generation.

Many people here love hating Apple for whatever reason that is good to them. Some even hated Steve Jobs, yet didn't know him. Apple has designed some neat products that have contributed to technology many of us love. Steve Jobs had quite a hand in that. I appreciate him for that.

[citation][nom]omnimodis78[/nom]Then how about you disable commenting if you can't show respect for the comment left by people who do not share your views. You are not a funeral home, this is not an official or unofficial condolences site, thus we have the prerogative to comment as we please as long as we are not violating the rules, and the comment and was subsequently deleted violated no rules![/citation]

Stop being a rules lawyer. Nobody likes them, and your not strengthening your stance. A great man died today, and will be sorely missed. Perhaps you didn't like him, nor the products he helped create, or even the company he created.. However, I guarantee he has marked your life in some way, for the better. So let the day a man dies, be a day of dignity.

If you have nothing positive to say, do what your mother should have taught you for once.

And Steve- Rest in Peace. Let's see God is susceptible to your Distortion-Field 😉 God bless.

RIP Steve ... job well done.

Love him or hate him there is no doubt history will put him down as one of the most creative forces in the history of computing and technological innovation.

He had the courage of his convictions to see projects through to completion ... possibly the most driven man on the planet.

The world produces so few people with that kind of talent, skill, and drive.

Rest in peace Sir Jobs. I never liked Apple's policies, but I do like the way you made smartphone accessible to everyone in the sense of useability, the amazing movies from Pixar and the design from Mac that inspired the visual theme in Windows, which resides in a majority of computers today.

He must have known this was coming, leaving Apple so soon before it happened. Not a huge personal fan of his products, but he was a technological, business, and marketing genius. The world has lost an amazing mind.

Why are the deceased immune from criticism, there's plenty one could criticise Steve Jobs about without it being inflammatory or offensive.

They most certainly are not immune from criticism. However, the man did just die. His family and loved ones are still grieving. Whether you liked him or hated him for whatever reason, is it too much to ask that you give it 24 hours before launching into a harangue? It isn't asking over much for some speck of civility in waiting at least until the corpse is no longer warm to berate the departed.

This person died from cancer, and I would ask that you show the same bare minimum respect that you would to anyone else that battled cancer and lost.

The Steve Jobs that the world knew wasn't a person but a persona, media and marketing hype. Media and marketing hype live on. I keep hearing about how he changed the way I listen to music...nope...or use the phone...nope, heck I don't have a single Apple product from the past 20 years or even have media stored in any of Apple's favored formats.

So, the person died but the hype lives on. Rupert Murdoch just released a touching tribute...that says a lot about the persona built up around this person.

My sympathy was reserved for the real man's struggle and the heartache of his loved ones: I have no sympathy for his worshipers including those in the media and if I hear another tribute I might just puke.

Although I am not an Apple user and has often criticise Apple product openly on Tom's Hardware (I criticise every brand really, not just Apple). I think Steve has done something amazing to transform Apple and released many successful Apple product under his direction. He will always be remembered as one of the most important people in the history of Apple, in the technology industry and in the world.

Who would've seen this coming so soon.

He has certainly been a divisive figure, no doubt. I'm sure most companies out there just wish that their customers will be such loyal, ardent adherents. Whether you like Apple or not doesn't matter at this moment; Steve did something that was extraordinary.

Hope your next journey is just as good as this one, Jobs.

When Steve Stepped down from Apple. I knew his days were numbered. I was hoping I was wrong. Well...R.I.P. Mr, Steve Jobs. You drove Apple to the top of fantastic electronics!!!!!

Seems my comment got deleted...I respect Steve Jobs and may he RIP, but i wish people could possibly be more civil.
The apple hate on here is ridiculous. Why my comment got deleted i don't know, but i wanted to point out that everyone got all nice when he died but you KNOW if this was an article on anything about Steve Jobs. There would be so many comments with some pretty terrible stuff. Two face bastards.

Much respect to Jobs though. He's done what most wish they could have ever done.

Steve Jobs, you will always inspire me.
My heart has sadden because you are gone, why you left? it was not your time yet.
I wanted you to introduce iphone 5 and any other hightech product comming soon...

I will always remember you!

If he becomes a Saint, maybe they will package his body particulates inside ipods, iphones, and other jewelry of these types as medallions. He was a descent guy, but one that you either love him, or you love to hate him. You love to defend him, or you love to attack him... at the end of the day, he's snickering... look at all those peckers down there still talking about me... prob' forever.
