I want to upgrade to a Sapphire Radeon 5700. But I currently have a 530W PSU (Thermaltake smart SE SPS 530 bronze certified)
Now the TDP of the 5700 is 180W while the 5700XT is 225W while they both recommend a 600W PSU. Now other GPUs with a TDP of 180w such as 2060super/1070ti/1080 recommend 500W-550W PSUs. Also the total power consumption of 5700 rigs on YouTube is 315W. Less than 2060/1070ti/1080 rigs. Now I'm wondering if my 530w PSU will be enough for a Sapphire 5700

Current rig
i5 6600
MSI z170a krait gaming 3x
GTX 960 MSI Gaming X 4g
4*2 team 3000mhz ram
Thermaltake Smart SE SPS 530

Yes a 530W PSU will be enough. The problem is Thermaltake doesn't have very many high quality PSUs and that one is a low quality one. You...

Yes a 530W PSU will be enough. The problem is Thermaltake doesn't have very many high quality PSUs and that one is a low quality one. You will want to get a new PSU in the near future just because that one is of low quality. Look at the Corsair TMX or RMx, Seasonic Focus GM or GX in a 550 or 650W level.

Agreed regarding the Thermaltake PSUs generally, and the Litepower and Smart series in particular.

This writeup is an absolute MUST READ. Do NOT gamble with your new video card on an poor-quality PSU. A 550W would be sufficient as long as it is a high-quality model, though for any given 550W model, the 650W version of the same model is sometimes only a few bucks more and gives you a more generous amount of overhead.
