Hi! I am helping my friend to build a new PC but something weird is happening. Whenever I put the RAM on the first, second or third slot, it doesn't POST and the amber lights for CPU and DRAM come on and only the fans spin. This shouldn't be happening, right? The motherboard is gigabyte z790 UD and the RAM is Corsair DDR5 5200mhz 32GBX1. This very specific memory is even listed on the memory support list of the motherboard too. Do I have to RMA the board now? Everything works fine with the RAM in fourth slot though.

Yes the slot farthest from the CPU. The B2 slot. Only one single stick of 32GB.
Then it's working like it should. If you only have 1 DIMM (which you do) it is necessary to put it in the furthest slot from the CPU mount unless you are running a dual channel set.

Look at the motherboard and see if you see one of the slots labeled as A2. If so, swap it into that slot and try it there too.

Yes A1 is there but the problem is it does not work anywhere else other than the B2 slot. I have run single stick ram on the A1 slot before in my previous builds. This is the first time I am seeing something like this.

The motherboard recommendation is A2 for single stick so if this doesn't work your CPU or motherboard is to blame. Unfortunately there isn't an easy way to figure out which is the problem unless you have a spare to try.

Gotta mail gigabyte then. Get the board checked out maybe...Thanks 👍
