Hello,

i am having some difficulty with one computer inside a domain at a
clients office. I am using a linksys vpn router, and i have enabled port
forwarding. I have no problems going through to the server, and to any
of the other machines in the network which are assigned a port, except
one. I was able to do so before the sp2 was installed. Suddenly i am no
longer able to remotely access that computer.

I did notice that it had additional remote administration programs
installed, which i have removed, but i still am unable to get in it. For
a while, i could get into the machine from another machine within the
lan, (but unable from outside the router), however, now i am not able to
do so from within the lan.

Any ideas as to what i should check, or change, or add, in order to get
the machine up and running again with the rdc so i can access it from
outside the office, through the router.

Thanks

Chris

I agree with Robin Walker---check the Windows firewall settings. Also check
whether they've installed any other software firewalls--many organizations
are being sold suites by their antivirus vendors which include firewall
functionality and don't think of it as such.

The "other remote admin software" may be worth raising a red flag
about--best to check how that happened and why. One man's legitimate RA is
another man's mal/spy/ware.

Check the XP Windows Firewall settings.

i did check that, everything is checked that should be checked. I went
to the remote tab on the system control panel, and set it up like all
the other computers, and all items are checked, added users on the list,
and yet i still cant get anything to work.

The firewall settings were fine. They do have an AVG virus program, but
not sure if it has a firewall function in it. In terms of the remote
admin software, i think it was being used by the previous IT guy, so
maybe he installed something in there?

Would a reinstall of windows xp and sp2 maybe get rid of the problem,
and clean up the registry?
