So... I recently upgraded my rig with a new GPU and I've been having issues while playing FFXIV. I went from an RTX 2060 to an RX 6750 XT.
Okay, so the issue I'm having is that when there are a lot of characters to load in, in the game my fps literally drops to 10-20 and the weird thing is that it only happens in FFXIV! And when I say a lot of characters, I mean like... around 40 or so players!(as many as the game can show, I play at max settings.) Loading in and out. Here are my full specs:
CPU: Ryzen 5 5600
GPU: RX 6750 XT
PSU: MSI MAG A650BN 650w
RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 16 GBs(2x8) 3200 MT/s Dual Channel
NVMe SSD
Drivers are up to date, so is the BIOS.
I literally run every other game perfectly, heck, I was just playing cyberpunk for 3 HOURS, not a single dip! Max settings too, high population density and everything. Smooth 60 fps, Ghost of Tsushima as well.
Okay, lemme explain the problem in a little more detail- When I walk around in a highly populated area, like Uldah over at the Balmung server where there are hundreds of players standing around my game literally starts to die because the game is trying to load some of them in, then it gets stable if I just don't walk and stand at that exact spot, it's only when loading in characters. The fps goes down to 5, it's a stuttery mess because the fps is literally so low... and this did not happen with my RTX 2060 at the same graphics settings.
Itmakes me think it's a GPU issue somehow. I also don't think it's a bottleneck in any way, I've tested more intensive games both on the CPU and GPU and it was okay. Also, my CPU NEVER reaches 100% while playing FFXIV, when I walk around in that stuttery mess my CPU usage is literally at 30% or so. My ram is also fine, it doesn't use that much of it(around 3gbs).
I've tried many things, here's a list:
Yes, I did check temps, nothing is overheating. CPU doesn't go above 60c ever, my GPU doesn't heat up that much when I play games, stays at around 65c(hotspot at 80c) AND I even checked HWinfo for more temps around my system, and they're all okay. Nothing reaches 70-80c, literally all temps are fine.
I've noticed, however, that my GPU's Core and Memory Clocks start dropping a lot when that happens, alongside the usage and the power, it goes all the way from 200w to 70w.
I'm at my wits' end. Considering RMA'ing the GPU because like I said... it did not happen with my RTX 2060 with the exact same specs(And I even tested it again, no SEVERE fps drops while walking around.)
I even ran some benchmarks with this GPU and it was fine. Literally everything else runs perfectly, it's just FFXIV which just so happens to be my favorite game of all time, great, how lucky.
I thought about it being a PSU issue but wouldn't it happen in other games as well? Anyway, I hope someone can help me... otherwise I'll just assume this GPU is defective somehow.

- Reseating GPU
- Reseating RAM
- Clean install of drivers using DDU
- Testing out new RAM sticks
- Updating BIOS
- Reinstalling windows
- Reinstalling the game
- Rolling back drivers
- Clean boot
