Hi
Can anybody help please. Ive got a xp installation that will not boot. It gets to the windows xp screen & continually reboots. Ive encountered this problem before on another pc & ive used recovery console to repair the xp installation. However on this pc you boot into recovery console but it doesnt show the xp installtion. Normally it'll show 1:c:\windows, please choose & you type in 1 enter password & away you go. On this pc it doesnt give you a choice it just shows c:\>. Does this sound like the hdd is bust or xp is unrecoverable? If its just xp thats scoobied could i repair the xp installation by reinstalling the os & choosing repair rather than reinstall? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

Paul

That may be the only way to get back stable enough to get in to recover whatever files you need to recover, but after recovering your files you'll probably be better off to reinstall from scratch, some repairs seem to go flawlessly, and some do not, maybe you'll get lucky this time.

I managed to fix it eventually.
I never got the option to repair the current installation so i went back into recovery console. The xp installation wasnt there so i ran chkdsk which found errors. I then ran fixboot which fixed the problem & now i can boot back into windows no problem. I will however backup data & reinstall.
Cheers
