Chat is open by default, and it's the only way to communicate with other
people in game.

That's a fairly significant difference.

You don't EVER need to open team search.

Like a classified ad, you can't make people look at it, and the fact
that so many people use team search and then invite PEOPLE WITHOUT LFT
ON says they aren't actually SEEING your classified anyway.

Ok....I'm going to reply to this person that is in my 'plonk' list for
one specific reason:

STFU

So far, your comparisons and analogies are reminiscent of the PL'rs
that are now crying that they can't do this or do that because there
are no more WinterLord Events.

I have a doobell on my house......that is not a LFT beacon.....the 'No
Solicitors' sign is my 'hide'.

My number is in the phone book, but I am registered on the 'Do-Not-
Call' list.

I am in a game, that I can solo, and have seen others solo.

So, in all earnest, Bradd.....STFU

I think the reason you have no problem with blind invites is that you
are son so many people's global/server ignore you just don't get
'bothered'.

I wish I had copied Xocyll's singature, so you could understand the
full impact of why you are in my 'plonk' list......

No, it's not broadcasting. Everyone on the server -can- see it, but
only if they actively seek it out. They have to send out a query to
find it.

Crying? From here it looks like Xocyll and Dark Tyger are doing all the
whining and crying. They're making up total bullshit and trying to pass
off their prejudices as universal truths. One of them even called me a
liar when I honestly stated that I don't get many blind invites with my
regen scrapper.

No, it's because I actually get to talking with the team leaders, find
out what they want, and have joined many good pick-up teams as a result.
Note that I'm far from the only person here who refuted the bit about
regen scrappers.

Frankly, I'm a bit fed up with this newsgroup lately. The whining and
kookery here is just as bad as the official boards. It was interesting
while there were folks like Neil Cerruti around, who actually offered
interesting discussion of the game, instead of the same old bitching
about nerfs and newbies.

Name one example of this "total bullshit" I've "made up".

Wasn't it you who insisted that I must be lying when I said my regen
scrapper doesn't get spammed with blind invites?

No, it isn't. Billboards are local. LFT is not. Shoo, kook.

Yeah, it means the same thing it does everywhere else.

Here are the definitions of the verb form of "broadcast", according to
m-w.com:

transitive senses
1 : to scatter or sow (as seed) broadcast
2 : to make widely known
3 : to transmit or make public by means of radio or television

intransitive senses
1 : to transmit a broadcast
2 : to speak or perform on a broadcast program

Seems some folks here are arguing that setting the LFG flag is
broadcasting because it fits definition transitive 2, and others are
arguing that it is not because it does *not* fit definition transitve
3.

Shrug.

Right. This is a silly argument. To "Broadcast" is to actively send out
information across a medium.

Holding up a sign, planting a billboard, painting a number on your head
is not broadcasting. It is advertising (there is a not-so-subtle
difference)

Setting an LFT flag is advertising, but users must request a status on a
character or group of characters in order to receive that status.

typing /b level 15 healer LFT
is broadcasting: Actively sending a message across a medium amidst other,
not necessarily related information, for many others to see.

While I disagree with Dark Tyger and his ilk's definition of the severity
of the blind invite problem, it *is* an issue that pops up from time to
time for just about anyone (and, in a nod to DT: it pops up far more
often for some than others) - it could all be very simply solved by
adding a third tab to the team window called 'solo mode', which means
invites could not be sent to the character at all until it was unset.
