PS

I have no idea what you are talking about. That is a picture of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
It was a press shot that we received from Samsung. Here is the back of the product with its proud "SAMSUNG" logo:
such a typical android response, always just want big and bigger numbers for their hardware. Is 11.6" really a tablet anymore? Also, it's crazy to think but this isn't really a retina display since the de-facto rule is that it has to be over 300 PPI, while this is around 260
[citation][nom]KingArcher[/nom]What is the point of having such high resolution on a tablet that is around 10" - 11"[/citation]
Longer answer: The point is to have an extremely high ppi so images look as good as possible. Just because no one can afford manufacturing that ppi on a full sized monitor (yet) doesn't me we shouldn't have it on a smaller tablet screen.
Apple owns the patent for any resolution of: 2560 x 1600 so Royalties will be paid to everyone who attempts to use a resolution equal or greater than this!

Retina display is just a marketing term these days. Besides, what's wrong with bigger numbers? Would you like to still be using 256MB of RAM and a screen that's 1024x768? Same type of thing. While it might not cater to you, other people will want it.

Manufacturers need ways to differentiate themselves in the android market as there are SO many devices that are basically the same with a few minor differences between one another. Also why not have the absolutely best picture possible, I'm personally waiting for a 5" to 5.5" tablet/phone hybrid device, something sized like the samsung galaxy player, maybe just a touch larger would satisfy my needs for both devices

It's illegal to make a non Apple slate style tablet. Companies that are doing this are breaking the law because they are violating Apple's patents. Just ask Apple. They are the top experts in patent law.

Actually with regard to displays that would be a typical Apple response. Also the price tag for any Apple computer when you consider the specs.
some people question the need for high resolution and called it market thing. However i do not think so. This is my reasoning.
on a small 5 inch or 4 inch phone screen, it would not matter. But on a 10 to 11 inch screen i think so. This difference is clearly visible when we read text. My laptop screen is 15 inch 1440 by 800. if i place it close to my eye like a normal book and try to read stuff, i can clearly see the pixels in the background. at 10 to 11 inches, the screen size may be small. but so are the total number of pixels. so even though i do not have a tablet, this same problem might be there. The move to higher resolution at tablet screen size will give us a closer to a book reading experience which is a good thing i think. if anyone thinks i am wrong on this, please correct me. thank you for reading this

And that is a typical Apple response. Just because an iPad is a certain size that does not define the "correct" size for a tablet device. Head's up: Its a big world out there, come and join us sometime.
Who cares about these ultra duper high resolutions? All I want is a matte display! Man, I find 1920x1080 is sharp enough for a 23" screen, so 2560x1600 on a 10" or so one is just absurd. And useless.
