Not sure if these closures will hit the Canadian market as well, but in my experience, TigerDirect, at least in Ontario, is extremely overpriced on a lot of their products. Every piece of hardware I ever looked at there was priced at least 15-25% higher than their competitors.

This just shows that TigerDirect's corporate oversight of their stor management was a fail! How about less focus on greedy profit margins and making sure that the CEO can afford his Lamborgini and 5th vacation home. More focus on BUSINESS and an effcient sales strategy. Microcenter is doing extremely well and offers a similar business. What's the difference? Microcenter knows how to do business right. More focus on customers and quality service, while continuing to provide the best products on site on their stores as well as FREE SHIPPING to customers not close enough to their stores. Poor TigerDirect corporate could learn a thing or 10 from Microcenter... NUFF SAID!

Gone are the days? I mean that's because there isn't anyplace to go buy computer parts that isn't ridiculously overpriced. Well, except for our lovely tiger direct store here in Raleigh which I am really praying is the unnamed fourth store!

I received this email this morning from a friend that works at one of the best TD stores in S Florida. it is self-explanatory:

To all my customers

All TigerDirect retail stores are closing May 9th. B2B (Business to Businesss) still up but not in the Deerfield Beach location. I will be working most likely out of my home to create orders for you with the company.

Right now we have 10% and 25% most items in the store.
Please see me at the store…Monday thru Friday 10am to 6pm

NewEgg is cheaper, but less convenient for most every computer part I have looked for. No sales tax, but added shipping was still cheaper.

You can't just walk into a NewEgg and leave with what you were looking for though. Than again, that realloy only happened at my local Tiger twice.

I personally think they just had bad management, every time i would go to the Hoffman Estates store in Illinois they would always try to upsell but didn't know what to upsell because they didn't know what they were talking about, i felt i walked into Best Buy from 5+ years ago. And were required to ask for my information while they were helping me on the floor, it was just not the best place to shop. I go to Fry's and Microcenter all the time because they both have great prices that match and sometimes beat what i can find online.

Two Coral Gables men were charged in federal court with scheming to obtain $9 million in kickbacks and other benefits and to hide their ill-gotten gains from the Internal Revenue Service while working as senior executives at Systemax Inc. and its TigerDirect Inc. unit.

Gilbert Fiorentino, 54, and his brother Carl Fiorentino, 57, were charged by separate criminal informations with conspiracy and tax offenses. They are expected to plead to the charges, as is typical in cases made by criminal information rather than by indictment.

When I first built a computer, I decided to visit the local Tiger Direct store so that I could truly see the size and shape of all the PC Cases I was looking at online. It was a great experience. I've always liked going to tech stores. Long Live Circuit City. But, looks like they're all headed down this path.

I get the need to cut expenses, but Tiger Direct was the only place I could tell my wife I was going where she didnt want to follow me. Looks like I have to find a new hiding hole.

Not a shocker. After working there for years I finally saw how bad this company really is. Always "restructuring", renaming ,changing colors from red to blue, putting MATRESSES into a computer store. The lack of respect for employees. Failed management on all levels and witnessing horrible customer service. The list goes on and on. I said my good byes months ago and never looked back. Truth is you can purchase every item they have somewhere else cheaper. The Naperville Warehouse is already shut down. So the business will now run out of one warehouse in Jefferson Ga.(the only reason that store will be open) I say good riddance. I ha e seen it first hand and my leaving was at my own accord in refused to be a part of a sinking ship.

This is wonderful news. Having worked for the retail stores for some time, I can safely say that the retail stores had poor business practices that revolved around not-so-cleverly lying to their customers, rather frequently. They mistreated employees, abused their rights, and lied to them to. This company had everything backwards, and I'm not even slightly surprised to see them going under (physically). The only loss here is to those who depended on their jobs with TigerDirect.

I love how my experience working for TigerDirect sounds rather identical, and I worked in a completely different country than you.
