Hi, when connected via DisplayPort, lately my resolution is stuck at 640 x 480. This has never happened before until yesterday when I booted up my computer. No new drivers were installed prior to this happening.

I tried various things to get back my resolution but to no avail. The only thing that worked was switching to an HDMI cable.

I did notice when connected via HDMI, the computer recognizes my monitor (MSI Optix MAG24C), however when connected via DisplayPort, since yesterday it states that it is connected to a "Mobile PC Display."

Specs:
Monitor - MSI Optix MAG24C
Motherboard - MSI Z97 Gaming 7
Processor - Intel i5-4690K
OS - Windows 8.1
Graphics Cards - 2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980 (SLI)
RAM - 16GB

Things I've tried (to get correct resolution with DisplayPort, HDMI works fine):
  • Updating drivers via GeForce experience.
  • Manually uninstalling and then reinstalling drivers downloaded from the website.
  • Using new cables.
  • Switching cable direction.
  • Using the 2 other DisplayPort connections on the graphics card.
  • Resetting the monitor.
  • Flashing BIOS.
  • Uninstalling graphics card drivers via Device Manager. This work temporarily, however as soon as I open up anything NVIDIA related or after a few minutes, it reverts back to 640 x 480 and won't allow me to change it. Ontop of that the computer will keep crashing and BSOD.
  • Performed a system restore.
  • Uninstalling/reinstalling monitor via device manager.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I believe the main issue is that when connected via DisplayPort, the computer no longer recognizes the monitor. This is shown on the Screen Resolution page under display where it will say the display is connected to "Mobile PC Display." Prior to yesterday, it worked fine and had "Optix MAG24C" at the display portion.

EDIT:
For anyone that may have this problem in the future, I was able to solve it by pulling out the power cable to the monitor and plugging it back in. This may have reset something in the monitor that the normal software reset wasn't able to.

Look around in device manager and see if some cell phone has installed itself there and needs to removed manually. You may have downloaded/viewed some photos from a phone and it still thinks it's connected. I've had some Samsung software load that was really hard to get rid of. Also in all programs see if something related is in there. It seems some device has taken over that dispaly port for some reason and is loading it's own drivers.
Couldn't find anything of the sort and haven't plugged any external device into my computer for a long time.

But I was able to solve the problem when I accidentally pulled the power cord out of the monitor instead of the HDMI cable when switching over. I guess this reset something in the...
