Reviewing ND-2500A, media help needed!!!

OK, from what I can tell there is no such thing as 8x media. But I really need to test this thing, and I've heard some 4x media can be burned at even higher speeds. If you've kept track, you know the thing burns + and - at 8x/8x, RW at 4x/4x.

So what media should I try and where is the cheapest place to buy it in small quantities?

I wish I could make a personal media recommendation, but I just got my ND-2500 from newegg, and haven't even installed it yet.

I based my decision on the reviews at:

<A HREF="http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/search/B" target="_new">http://www.cdfreaks.com/article/search/B</A>

and

<A HREF="http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Hardware/All.asp" target="_new">http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Hardware/All.asp</A>

Here's a very long thread on DVD media. It's mostly on bulk purchases, but you might get some clues on what media to try.

The cdfreaks review discusses specific media, and some of the 4x that will write at 8x or 6x. Maybe that will give you some direction.

Overall, it appears the 2500 is a VERY good writer but not as good a reader.

One thing I didn't learn from the above reviews is that the 2500 is not available retail in the US, so support could be an issue. As long as it works, I'm OK with this, but I wish I'd known. It might have changed my decision.

Hopefully someone else will be more helpful.

Thanks, I'm tracking down information on Taiyo-Yuden media right now!

8x media does exist, but its not availible yet in stores. Online stores that sell discs in bulk offer it. <A HREF="http://www.rima.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=R&Product_Code=1720-100&Category_Code=DVDPLUSR" target="_new">Here</A> is one. They also have the Taiyo Yuden's that you are looking for.

Not sure about this but I thought I read in a thread at CDFreaks.com that Fuji Film 4x DVD-R is Taiyo Yuden manufactured media.

I've read threads about FujiFilm using Taiyo Yuden...but that you had to make sure your media was made in Japan, not Tiawan. Anyway, I ordered a 10-pack of Taiyo from allmedia.com

I remember hearing the same comments about FujiFilm CD-R media.

Don't have a DVD Burner but I'm curious. I'll have to check the FujiFilm packaging the next time I'm in Best Buy.

Heh, we don't have a BestBuy here yet. Just Staples, ABC Whorehouse, er, Warehouse, Wally World, er Wal Mart, and Target. Oh, K-Mart too, they're so easy to forget these days.

Yeah, we got Staples too. K-Mart is hanging on (never even thought about looking for computer media there). K-Mart and all the other discount stores that have always existed in the Boston area kind of kept WalMart to making a very late appearance but they're here now too. No Whorehouses. LOL!

BestBuy is a popular store. They're always selling FujiFilm media, really cheap, often $8/100 pcs after rebate, which is often instant rebate. The FujiFilm CD-R media was once 100% Taiyo Yuden (but I heard rumors it's no longer true) and TY is the only stuff that works in all my CD writers and CDROMS (very odd, old collection) without major errors or major performance issues. Plus, it's the only media that my ancient Toshiba SD-3107 DVD player can read at all. (The player can read CDRW media no problem). I've heard the player is equally tempermental with DVD media, but as I mentioned, I haven't delved into DVD yet.
