I’m a little confused about where you plug the RGB cable from the fan into the motherboard. I have an Asus B560m Plus Wifi board using the NZXT AER RGB 2 fans . I understand that I need to plug the fan cables into a fan header which I’m going to get a splitter for ( I hope this is right) but I’m not so sure about the RGB cable?

Solution
The product in the following links?

https://www.nzxt.com/product-overview/grid-plus-v3

https://nzxt-site-media.s3-us-west-...ad/attachment/627/GRID__Manual-053117-web.pdf

Appears (per the documentation) that up to six fans are supported. RGB/colors - apparently not.

What/how did the NZXT Grid 3 come into the situation?

The requirements now expanding from color patterns, etc, to include controlling fan speeds as well?

Doing so may include other cautions, restrictions, requirements, etc..

I will have to defer on that question because there other questions to be answered and the overall installation planned out.

Hopefully someone else following your thread will be able to answer directly...

Start with the motherboard's User Guide/Manual.

I found the following link:

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/.../E17587_TUF_GAMING_B560M-PLUS_WIFI_UM_web.pdf

[Do verify that I correctly identified the motherboard.]

Physically numbered Page 1-1 shows the location of the headers: upper right corner of the motherboard. Green dots 11 &12.

Pages 1-3 and 1-4 present RGB connection information along with some notes and warnings.

Read the entire manual and pay attention to all warnings, fine print, and suggestions to go to the manufacturer's website for more current information.

You should also read through the documentation for the fan(s) and for the case.

Sketch out the connections pin by pin (wire by wire) to ensure that the connections being made match the installation documentation.

Details matter.

Thanks for your reply.

I have a couple more questions.

Can you use a splitter for the RGB fans?
What type of splitter would I use?
The board manual describes LED Strips instead of RGB fans does that make a difference?
Which of the headers do I use for the RGB as they have different names?
And how will my system be able to change the RGB?

I understand these may be silly questions, I'm just quite new to this all.

They are not silly questions and the answers may take a bit of research and study:

First the NZXT AER RGB 2 fans that you have - do you have a Lighting controller? How many fans and strips?

Installation -

(As before, verify that I identified the correct fan.)

Read the installation instructions. There are lots of details and things to be careful about.

The fans are connected in series and apparently come with the necessary cable to do so.

Although the fans may work with a direct motherboard connection, you likely need the fan controller which is powered via a molex connector per Step 1.

Very much the same considerations for the strips you intend to install.

Take a look at the diagram in the following link:

RGB fan connection diagram

That is not necessarily the way your connections will need to be made. However, the diagram can serve as a template/guide for you to create your own diagram.

Sketch out your own diagram showing the connections with allcomponents (power, controller, fans, strips). Pay attention to the required voltages, cables, pinouts, and connectivity.

The diagram does not need to be a work of art - just clearly showing the components and connections. Note voltages.

Will I need the NZXT Grid 3 for it all to work?
