I'm sure microsoft thought of the people who don't have internet, limited the feature perhaps?

The 3D feature mentioned above is nice to have but... I'd rather get my core component backup on a different partition or on a flash drive thank you very much. I've already disabled my auto update because it mocks up my systems after the driver/s has been updated from their site. Plenty of people who knew more of these things don't like the idea but the majority doesn't even have a clue. I don't mind calling Microsoft to validate and confirmed them that my OS is genuine. But with my system being analysed... that's another security hole they are going to build patches. Hopefully, Linux would be good enough to consider, otherwise, Mac is another option. Let's hope it's all just a rumours.

The 32 bit version is mainly for corporations I think... they have some very old legacy stuff, old programs etc that may need pure 32 bit code or even older... But to home user segment... 32bit is not so usefull or at least so much needed anymore.

Well... maybe we will see some 64bit games when win9 is out...
(sarcasm) "2 GB is enough for everyone..." (/sarcasm)

Reference ChromeOS's magnificent concept to leach private data without having to steal it. MS has to go with a cloud-solution... which puts us right back into the cyclic...

good OS, bad OS cycle.
Remember the article "Next version of Windows will take a gamble"? = Bad, and they know it.

Dear Microsoft,
Please stop this "million-versions-of-the-same-OS" bullshit.
The current shit with 32bit, 64bit, starter, home, professional and ultimate all in separate boxes with separate licenses is bad enough.
Having to write software for 2 different UIs will only cause problems and headaches.

Apple is not really in the business of selling OSs, but having only two versions of Mac OS X, one for servers and one for everything else, just makes life much easier for all people involved.

[citation][nom]nevertell[/nom]Wasn't there a rumor that they'd drop 32 bit support after windows 7 ?[/citation]

That was stated by Steve Balmer himself prior to Vista being released....

[citation][nom]noblerabbit[/nom]it's time for Win8 to jump ontp the 128-bit OS bandwagon.[/citation]

There are no 128bit consumer processors....

Love Windows 7. not going with 8 if it is cloud based ill pass cough!! (vista).... i thought i foreseen the end of 32bit come on m$ stop gambling around with it not a good idea. focus on 64bit and the future make the software companies comply and the hardware companies catch up. your their Redmond hero now act like it!

[citation][nom]Daygall[/nom]well cloud based eh? call me old fashioned but if thats the case im never goin past win7 thank you, i like my computer to have the ability to be off networklike my 1 box i have that has never even seen a network cause i do my taxes on it... cloud based os.... whats next stream your gameing as a video... wait nvm -_-[/citation]
Or even a laptop just to turn on without paying for a wireless Network.

[citation][nom]noblerabbit[/nom]it's time for Win8 to jump ontp the 128-bit OS bandwagon.[/citation]

Yeah? when software barely has been written for 64bit? do we need to confuse users and programmers even more? what limits does 64 bit have that we MUST HAVE TO start switching to 128bit so suddenly?

I had to laugh that you have to go on line to log on to prevent piracy. Figure it's about 50/50 that by the time Windows 9 comes out people will be willing pay for an OS. I suppose they want to maximize their return on the last OS they can charge for, no matter how much it pushes customers away.

I will not go to a Cloud based OS. A Cloud has it usefulness but NEVER a OS. If MS thinks that is the best thing, They do not have US in mind. I will run Windows ME before a Cloud based OS. No, I will install Linux ONLY if Windows goes cloud based! Linux is getting hardware friendly and is stable and easy to use. (If only Netflix would support Linux)

That said I would love a 3D interface. As long as its done right. Maybe Windows 9 will have the 3D interface polished 😉

Microsoft did that with Windows 2000. Three versions which were Home, Professional and Server.

Hopefully they will do the same in future versions.

Sorry. I'm disappointed. Really, Microsoft? Keeping 32-bit alive? Your operating systems since Windows Vista have been an absolute resource hog. I'm sure Windows 8 is going to be just as bad, or worse. Having a machine that will only have 3 or less GB of RAM might be a bit difficult by time Windows 8 rolls along. It'd be difficult to find RAM in that capacity.

I think that I'll stick with Windows 7 for a while.I just don't like the idea that Windows 8 will be heavily cloud based.Windows is already too heavily DRM'd as it is.

Previously we reported that Windows 8 will be heavily cloud-dependent, requiring the user to sign into an account stored on Microsoft's cloud servers. Security will also supposedly be cloud-based, storing key kernels with the user's account. Kinda crazy to me. Treating people like they stole the OS will not fly with me. Good luck selling win8 cause I am not buying it.

This is to MS its SB. The next windows should be about choice. Let it be really customizable. Let users choose. If I want to run it classic Windows 3.1/95 style, I want to have that choice, if I want to run it Windows 8 super new style, I'll choose that. No cloud BS please; It's a PERSONAL COMPUTER, REMEMBER? It should be optimized as much as possible for the new, and old machines. Let it run fast with very limited features on old machines, and with super beefed up features on latest greatest machines. This time, ready lots of exclusive NATIVE DirectX 12 games to be prepared for shipping before the actual OS release. No more BS like optimized DX11 games, with DX9 graphics... And come on, it's time to get rid of idiotic authentication stuff. Show people the real value of using Windows, find a way to make customers understand why it's important to pay/support for OS. Everybody expects the Windows 8 to be a failure anyway as the history shows. So at least TRY something this time. More serious development, less BS marketing.

[citation][nom]Spore[/nom]I was kind of hoping Windows 8 wouldn't even have a 32bit version.[/citation]

You have no idea how many old programs are being used all of which work only with 32 bit oses... some dont even work on windows vista or newer oses... These old programs are still used because it works and people are accustomed to it. Upgrading to a newer os may lead to compatibility issues which would greatly hurt efficiency or even production on a small business. A lot of people out there OUTSIDE of the US are old fashioned and have a hard time dealing with computers. Changing the os would only make their work harder. The US doesnt represent the rest of the world.
