Hey guyz, I'll try to make this as simple as could bee..
Bought a Gigabyte B550M-DS3H with Ryzen 5600X.. ram is Ballistix 4000Mhz CL18, they are now in slot DIMM1,3
At first i plugged them in DIMM0,2 which worked OK, POSTed, installed WIN but problems started when i started to play with memory speed - i wanted that XMP 4000Mhz..
3beeps when rams in DIMM0,2 (3beeps, reset, 3beeps, reset, one beep, reset, POST beep, delete key-BIOS) when trying to run ANY higher than 3200Mhz, 3200Mhz is stable
it was giving me headaches, conclusion - RAMs are 100% ok and i get to run it in DIMM1,3 on XMP 4000Mhz yaaaay!
But what is wrong, could it be the MoBo or is it the IMC on the CPU? I doo not get it..
I do not know what to RMA
Thanx

You should insert the ram slot on slot 2 and 4, then update the bios to the latest, and set the XMP Speed again.

I ever ecounter this problem when installing my friend Klevv Bolt XR 2x8gb 3600mhz on B550M and it wont boot, using another spare ddr4 ram and updating the bios to the latest, and it worked @3600mhz on ryzen 5 3600.

Not necessarily what you're asking, but maybe it's somewhat related. I don't know enough to be sure, honestly.

I did a fair amount of research on RAM when I bought my 5600x. Given that the FCLK for the 5600x is 1800, the best RAM speed was 3600, and everything I read said that anything above that would almost always be wasted outside of some configuration modifications (decoupling MCLK and FCLK), but even then you end up suffering latency penalties so you have to have vastly higher speeds in order to make up for it.

There are quite a few resources that I found when looking into it, but here (Reddit) is one that I found quick, which explains what I'm talking about.

BIOS is already the latest F13 and as i said, DIMM0,2 (one channel, slot 1+3) worx only 3200Mhz max, DIMM1,3 (second channel, slot 2+4) worx fine with 4000Mhz XMP, no issues
This is the only thing in BIOS i set up, everything else is set to default/auto, including FCLK/UCLK, CPU speed

fyi, slot 1,2 and 3,4 is on a different channel, 1 and 3 is the weakest (because of daisy chain topology) while 2 and 4 is the strongest. It's not a defect, it's just how it works.

Thanx, did not know about this.. so i guess that if i would to stick another 2 DIMMs there, i would be very limited to that 3200Mhz, a pity.. fortunately i have no plans doing that

You could probably limited anywhere from 3600mhz to 4000mhz, since slot 2 and 4 is occupied, the remaining ram slot somehow will strengthen up (must set high speed on slot 2 and 4), so you could run 3600mhz on all 4 slots BUT all dimms must be identical and single ranked (1Rx8), so that 4 sticks of single ranked ram will give you the almost exact same performance as 2 sticks of ram but dual ranked (2Rx8)
