Hi, I am currently running a 6700xt with a Ryzen 5 5600x on an ASUS prime b550 board. I have bought a 4070ti and I know that there will be a bottleneck with the 5600x. I am looking to purchase the 5800X3D as it’s the best gaming cpu on AM4 but I just wanted to know if a motherboard upgrade is necessary or will I be fine running the 5800X3D on the b550 board.

Which Asus Prime B550 chipset board do you have? I'm certain that all you need to do is simply perform a BIOS update and then drop in the 5800X3D onto the socket and you should be good to go.
Hi, thanks for the reply, I’ve got a Prime plus motherboard and I understand the bit about the bios update. I just need to know if there will be any issues with power delivery and will it cause instability.

What resolution and Hz is the monitor and can the cpu deliver the fps you want?

Just be sure you actually need to upgrade, if the cpu can deliver the fps needed for your Hz then any bottleneck is largely irrelevant. People worry way too much about a bottleneck, better to focus on are you achieving the performance you want and if not then working out what the limiting factor is.
