Hi Guys, I'm now building a gaming desktop. But for the CPU, Intel I9-9900K/ I9-9900KS or AMD Ryzen have their pros and cons. I'm not sure which CPU I should choose to get the best performance out of it. Can I get some suggestions and opinions from you guys? Thank you!!

Before we start dishing out suggestions, I think it's best if you stated what your intended usage for the build will be. Depending on that, we can move forward. Also, list the app's/tasks you're going to be taxing the system with. If gaming, list the titles.

What is your target FPS or what resolution and Hz will your monitor be?

Intel really only pulls ahead when running a lower resolution paired with a high end gpu. If aiming for 1080p 240Hz or 360Hz then I’d say definitely Intel i7/i9. At 1080p 120-165Hz you might see a slight benefit with Intel if running something like an RTX 2080. For higher resolutions the gpu is the limiting factor.

If you JUST are gaming, buy a 9900k. The 9900k + one click on MCE in bios is basically a 9900ks, and you saved a lot of money plus got a longer warranty. Even a 9700k would suit.

Ryzen 3700x will not perform too much behind a 9900k and cost far less, allowing you to spend more on GPU and see more benefit.

A Ryzen 9 3900x will not perform too much slower in games either but will outperform the 9900k in mostly everything else as it has 4 more cores. At around $400-419 and is slightly cheaper than a 9900k.

What will you be doing? And if you're gaming what res and refresh rate you targeting? This is because you can get a 3700X for less than a 9900K and put that to a better gpu which will give you more performance than a 9900K would

Just a small question, why the hell are you going for a halo tier board? You do realsie that you can get a board with all the features you need for less than half the price?

Honestly all told you seem to be going for the most expesnive option regardless of the performance apart from getting a mech harddrive with a budget nortyh of 4 grand for some reason, for example the RAM kit you have will perform worse than a 3600MHZ kit that costs 1/4 of the price if you went with ryzen. Would you like a sensible build putting together if you just list what you want for example do you want RGB and what colour wouldf you like?

Wait, so i could get cheaper prices but the same performance with Ryzen?

You can drop about 2000 from that system and get the same performance with intel or AMD. Maybe with the monitor too I'm not sure why that costs over a grand. You're looking at motherboards withg features you don't need and won't use and things like RAM which you might get 1% better on intel for like £500 (not really worth it) and lower performance on AMD.

What are you looking to play and at what resolution and frame rate?

Omg thanks a lot. I could save a lot of money with this. I thought that the more expensive the motherboard it is, the faster it runs(childish mindset). But do you have some suggestions to replace some of the components with cheaper ones but still the same performance or even better? Thank you a lot!!!

If you tell me if you're doing anything other than gaming and when gaming what games and resolution you're aiming for I can put together something when I get back in about an hour/ 1.5 hours. Can I ask are you dead set on that case and water cooling? Do you want all the RGB? Just because if I can due to you having the budget I can look for stuff that costs a little bit more than the cheaper option but will make your life a hell of a lot easier when it comes to syncing all the lights.

Actually I don't care about water cooling, the rgb or the case, I just want it to run very fast for my gaming. Normally my desktop is on for whole day except when i sleep.
But i wish it to look nice and not small and ugly, at least some rgb the case is better looking. I don't care about the water cooling.
Normally, i play and just read comics from the pc. I will come back like about 6 hours later, sorry. But can you suggest me the components that you think can be replaced with cheaper but same or better performance? Thank you a lot!!

Right ok, I'll look at mATX and ATX cases and keep RGB in mind, see you in a bit.

Can you also suggest some parts which i could replace with cheaper ones but same or better performance? Thank you
Difficult because you're in Singapore? that's what S$ means right? so you can probably get these parts cheaper than listed here but saves you S$1000 even ordering from newegg. so you should be able to get them for a lot less where you are. Monitor and speakers are up to you the one you picked is expensive but good, prefer headphones to speakers myself. Would suggest a be quiet dark rock slim for the cooler but the site didn't show it was available to be sent over so didn't list it.

Oh good! Another AMD vs Intel thread 🙄

I have an i5-9600k which I purchased last year. So far it's served me well - for the most part.

I play BF5 on Ultra with an RTX 2060 Super at 1080p, without RT enabled. It plays great on 32 player or less servers. However, on 64 player servers, I do get the occasional stutter. I mostly avoid 64 player servers.

I'm told by people who post here that my 'stutters' are due to my CPU not having enough threads. My CPU has 6 cores/threads. I have no reason to question this analysis. I've also been told that as time goes by, it's very likely that more and more games may require more and more threads to run them smoothly.

When I purchased my new CPU/motherboard/etc..., I was replacing a an old i5-3570k system whose motherboard died. I really didn't do my homework and now regret it a little bit. At the time, I didn't realize the massive strides AMD has made the last couple of years, as well as the fact that games now utilize more threads. If I had, I might have gone down the AMD route with a CPU that has more threads. But, on the other hand, I do notice there are a lot more posts here about people having issues with their AMD setup than with their Intel setup - but that could be because most people who post here have AMD setups :).

Do I change the cpu to either ryzen 9 3900x or 3950x?

Compatibility Notes
  • Note:The Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard has an additional 4-pin ATX power connector but the SeaSonic FOCUS 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply does not. This connector is used to supply additional 12V current to the motherboard. While the system will likely still run without it, higher current demands such as extreme overclocking or large video card current draws may require it.
  • What does this means?

You can if you'd like to but they won't give you a ton more headroom

Also with the PSU it has the ports for the cables but only one cable, weird. I don't think you need the extra 4 pin unless you're an X OCer though. Basically it has the standard 8 pin CPU power connecter but has an additional 4 pin for people who want to pour more power into the chip when they're trying to overclock the CPU a lot. But if you do want more power later on the PSU does have the connecter space so you can just buy another cable, just make sure it's compatible.

Can you specify? I'm not so sure what you are talking about.

The Motherboard has a 8 pin CPU connector which is normal plus an additional 4 pin connector which isn’t needed unless you’re overclocking Your CPU to extreme levels and need more than then over 200W the 8 pin provides.
So, what you are meaning is that it will work if you are not extreme overclocking?
Btw, I have edited what you suggested for my pc parts:
https://sg.pcpartpicker.com/list/R2pkq3

If you are not extreme overclocking, ignore the warning and just connect the single CPU 8 pin.

Why does your post link to a bunch of out of stock parts?
