Question SATA hard disks not detected after MoBo upgrade

Hi y'all!

I updated my mobo from Asus B350 Prime Plus to Asus TUF Gaming B550 Plus and since neither of my SATA disks are detected by BIOS or Windows.

I have enabled CSM as many guides.. well, guide and every SATA port (?) individually in the BIOS. Tried a different power cable as a long shot. Haven't tried different SATA cables, because what are the odds that both cables fail at the same time.

The disks are EVO 850 500 GB and an ancient 1 TB 5200 rpm HDD.

Should it matter in which SATA ports the cables are plugged? I just plugged them to the easiest ones available because I already had my GPU in and was feeling lazy.

Did you change PSU also?
Note - with modular PSUs you can use only original cables.
Using wrong PSU cables can kill/damage hardware connected.

Sometimes it does. Do you have any M.2 form drive connected on board? If yes, what kind and which port?

I had changed the PSU to a fully modular before the mobo swap, but the cables are the same that worked with the B350.

I have an EVO 970 Plus on the main m.2 nvme slot that's under a heatsink. That's got Windows on it and is working like it should.

You mean the top slot? In that case it should not affect any SATA ports.

You have to change all the old modular cables to new ones.

If you were lazy and kept some of old modular cables and turned on your system, hdds/ssds can be killed by this.

It's the bottom slot then. In such case slots marked as SATA5 and SATA6 are disabled. You have to use the remaining four slots.

... And of course the disks were in slots 5 & 6 since they were the only ones reachable under the colossal 6900 XT.
Removed the card, reslotted to 1 & 2 and the drives were found.
