Screen difference between 2560 X 1440 and 1920 X 1080

What is the difference, visually..like size wise for a desk top ? Just wondering if its worth it to get the higher resolution or just get 2 1920 X 1080's.

The higher the resolution the smaller things are on the screen , the icons are smaller and the text is also. You are able to adjust the size of those things so that your not stuck with smallicons and text.
Also things are sharper and the overal look is so much better even though 1920x1080 is high def.
I went from a 1920x1080 monitor to a 2560x1600 and I won't go back.

Also, keep in mind that 1920x1080 is a 16:9 aspect ratio and 2560x1600 is a 16:10 aspect ratio.

This could affect your choice.

I will say that in going from a 27" 1920x1080 , to a 30" 2560x1600 I did not notice any difference in gaming and I suppose that is because I have some very powerful top of the line video cards with a lot of video ram.
When staying at the same screen size and using lower video cards there may be a difference.
The one thing that you do not want to do with gaming is use two monitors because the gun or sight of the gun will be in the center and with two monitors that means the bezel is also in the center and it will be problematic for first person shooters.
You want one monitor or three so that the center is open.

How much was the 30"? I would probably just get two monitors, one for gaming one just that screen and the other for the desktop / anything i needed like browsing and such

If you want the two monitors with gaming on one and things open on the other you can do that and I have done that and found it helpful in monitoring performance while playing. Having the resource monitor open on the second screen allows me to see cpu usage, ram usagfe , temps and a video monitor open also.
The one thing is that the mouse is locked while gaming and you will have to alt tab out or play in windowed mode which allows the mouse to rtavel to the second screen while gaming.

I noticed your set up is similiar to what i am going to get, Do you prefer the two 680s or do you wish you had a 690?

I prefer the two 680s over the 690 because the benchmarks that I have seen have two cards gettings higher frame rates then the 690 and 590. So two 580s will beat a 590 and two 680s will beat a 690.
The reason is because Nvidia doesn't put the same gpu in the 690 as they do in the 680 , that's why untill they do that a two chip card will not beat out two single cards plus they set the core clock so low when they use to gpus that the single cards come with a much higher stock clock.
I have great gaming with no ghosting or stuttering or any problems what so ever, I have the two 680s slightly over clocked and they are the classified model so they have 4gb each and the stock clock was higher to begin with.

I wonder how big the difference is on a 11" screen in Windows?
Since Window's scaling isn't perfect, sometimes running 1920 at 1:1 looks better than scaling up at higher resolutions.
I am comparing the Dell XPS 11 to my Asus Taichi21.
