Screen Freeze!!

My friend has got a PC with an issue! Every time he boots it up the screen freezes, as in u can't move mouse pointer or anything. Not the newest PC in the world either by the way! He's still running Win ME!

Which area would be the first thing to target as the source of the prob when troubleshooting??

I ohnestly dont know what could be doing that but I will highly recommend either downgrading to 98se or upgrade to win 2k. WinME was/is a terrible os and it wouldn't suprise me at all if it just decided to tweak on you. WinME is "almost" as bad as mac os

I’m thinking it’s either a driver or device problem. Can he boot into save mode. By pressing, I think F10 or F8 during boot up? If so it’s probably a driver. *** He can also try taking out any PCI card, sound, nic other and disconnect all CD drives and any extra hard drives. If still no luck my guess would be the hard drive is bad or video card. Can you test them in another PC?
