Screen Tearing Issues...

Hi,


Could someone give me advice with the following problem? My display gives vertical screen tearing. It's like the screen doesn't keep up with the refresh rate. I read that you need to disable v-sync in order to fix it. I did so in the nvidia control panel (force off) but the problem still occurred...

I also tried to connect another display but this did not solve the problem. I'm using 2x the GTX 295 in Q-SLI. The cards are fine, because I tested them both in Q-SLI and individually in another system and it worked fine. I also tried to connect the display to another system and no problems occured. With the default windows drivers it had no problems (but I did not tested any games with the default windows drivers). The drivers I have tested from nvidia are the 258.69, 260.89 and 260.99.

The possibilities are coming to an end so hopefully somebody can help me because it's a disaster playing games or watching a movie like this...

You could use the drivers from the other system, the one that you had the cards tested on.
Is this happening immediately after booting or it takes a while for the problem to occur?

I already tried using the same drivers, those are the 260.89 and they worked fine on the other rig. The screen tearing happens when I start to watch a movie or play a game. In windows itself it just reacts normally like it should. The other rig has the following hardware components:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @default
4GB DDR2-800
(default videocard) Nvida Geforce GTX 280
1 TB HDD

You have tried the single card config on the other system and it worked fine. Did you try that on this system as well? Try with either card plugged in and the other one left out of the system.

Normally you ENABLE Vsync not Disable it to stop screen tearing,i am running 2 1 gig 4870`s in CF and every game i play i get screen tear and the only thing that i have found that fixes it is Vsync,i dont think there is much more you can do unfotunatly

andy_93's right vsync should fix screen tearing not cause. perhaps the monitor may have some expiring components inside of it.

Just turn on Vsync thats the purpose of it to stop screen tearing.

Like I said before. I already connected the display to another screen and no problems occurred so the monitor is fine. The cards are fine as well because I tested them as well in the other rig and no problems occurred. I'll try formatting and reinstalling the whole system to see if that helps...

When doing that, start with a single card setup, as I have mentioned earlier. once you get that going you can add the second one for SLI.

I found the fix for tearing during Netflix viewing with a GT 640 was to uncheck inverse telecine in Nvidia control panel under video/adjust video image settings. Then apply. Hope this helps

Crap tried checking inverse telecine box and tearing still gone. The only other thing I did was to adjust desktop size and position. I clicked on each scaling option / make sure all three had the same settings. Apply after each change, although I don't think I changed anything but hard to tell. I didn't change anything on my main monitor and tearing still gone. I did uninstall silverlight and reinstalled it.
