Question Secondary SSD won't show up on windows after CPU upgrade

I just upgraded my CPU today and all of a sudden my secondary SATA III SSD doesn't show up. However, it does show up in my BIOS.


Things I've done already:

  1. Updated MOBO to the latest BIOS
  2. Reset CMOS "deep"
  3. Updated the CPU's chipset driver
  4. Enabled UEFI and TPM in BIOS

SSD doesn't appear in disk management or device manager. Would really appreicate any help!

MOBO: Aorus X470x Gaming 7 rev 1.1
Current CPU: Ryzen 7 5700X
Old CPU: Ryzen 5 2600X
GPU: Gigabyte 3060Ti
Ram: Corsair 2x 16GB RGB Vengence
PSU: EVGA 750W
Running on Windows 10 64bit

Since you've tried the different ports, that does not seem to be the problem.

Any possibility of checking this drive in a different system, or a SATA-USB dock?

But if it's a dead drive/ports not actiavted, then it shouldn't show up on the BIOS as a boot option then?

I don't have an alternative system to check this on unfortunately.

Did you change anything else than cpu ? Motherboard perhaps?
What are model names of all your drives?
Is Patriot P210 - the one being detected or the one not being detected? Or both your drives are Patriot P210 ?

Make sure sata controller is set to AHCI in BIOS.
Please show screenshots from Device Manager and
windows storage spaces (Control Panel/Storage Spaces).
 
Download and install Minitool and see if it can detect it.

The fact that your BIOS sees it as a boot option makes me believe that you have an OS installed on it. Could explain why Windows doesn't see it. Did you reinstalled Windows after you swapped the CPU? If you did, you may have accidentally installed it on the wrong drive (or at least created a boot partition on the secondary one). If it's the case, Minitool will see it.

What is the secondary drive for? Backups? Extra storage?

I only changed the CPU and nothing else.

The Patriot P210 is the one it isn't detecting. My other drive is a WDS500G3X0C-00SJG0.
The SATA controller is already set to AHCI in BIOS.

I haven't reinstalled Windows after swapping CPU. I only changed the CPU and haven't touched or modified anything else.

I've downloaded Minitool and it only detects my main boot C drive (m.2 NVME). My secondary drive is for extra storage.

That goes more and more toward a dead drive. I've never seen a working drive not being detected by Minitool. Did you double check that both cables are well plugged into the drive? The next step would probably be to get a usb to sata adapter. They cost 10$ and it's a very handy tool to have in your drawer.
 
I just checked online and Patriot P210 512G are 10 for 225$ on Amazon. So 22$ each. You get what you pay for, and I hope you were backing up any important stuff you had on this drive.

But if it's a dead drive then it shouldn't be detected on my BIOS right? That's the part that confuses me.

I had no idea that's so cheap now. It was more than double that price when I bought it a few years ago.
