Question Should I return my 9900X and pay in a bit extra for 9800X3D ?

I got a Ryzen 9 9900X on a good deal! I thought it was perfect till I heard about the X3D cards.
I'm an avid high-end gamer who wants to play on the best ultra settings as well as a video editor. I'm thinking of returning it for a Ryzen 9800X3D but it's about 140 dollars more.

Questions:
  1. Is the X3D a deal breaker?
  2. Will the 9900X be fine for 4k gaming with a GPU like a 4070 or a 4090?
  3. Or should I spend the extra cash and get a 9800X3D?

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

If your primary task on your PC is gaming and the 9800X3D is actually in stock where you are(seeing) then yes I'd swap to the X3D SKU. You've mention the added price tag but how much did you source the 9900X for?

I see thanks! I got it on wootware, I stay in South Africa and it's one of the best places to get it for me

I also do video editing though. So I do gaming and video editing equally. Is going from 12 cores to 8 cores worth it for x3d?

Hey guys, I'm in a bit of a dilemma. I'm deciding between the 9900x, 9800x3d, 7900x3d and 7950x3d. The 9900x is between 100 dollars and 200 dollars cheaper than those cpus on sale. I'm a gamer and video editor who wants to get in Blender. I'm also an avid gamer who wants the best settings. So saying that Im looking for a great balance between productivity and gaming for the next 5 or so years. The 9900x is very affordable at the moment, but will rather pay more if the x3d cpus are a deal breaker. Let me know please?

1. No. Not for your stated purposes.
2. Yes, absolutely.
3. Only you can answer this in terms of value to you. The 9900X is more than enough to meet your stated needs.

If your video editing applications can utilize 12 cores and you use it regularly, then the core reduction will definitely be noticeable.

I do a lot of video encoding - I went from a 5950X to a 7900X and even though it was faster, the reduced cores wound up giving me no improvement over the 5950X. I returned it and got the 7950X - for CPU-intensive tasks that can saturate all cores, core/thread count is important.

There are YouTube reviews of the 9800X3D with comparisons to other processors. The 9800X3d was best for gaming but, IIRC, it definitely took a hit with productivity apps.

Still trying to work out the budget outside of the CPU. So something reasonable and worth the money. Don't want to cheap out on ram and regret it later.
As I'm in South Africa, Evetech or Wootware.
What is your budget and from where are you likely to purchase?
Does this look good? Im using my old power supply, case and storage which is already selected here.

Im getting these from South African stores, so the prices aren't accurate.
