LOL I'll be damned, I didn't think someone would be that quick to buy ryzen.
Make a build thread for your ryzen chip and test video of your system, I'm eager to see what amd has done for 5 years.
I'll contact blackbird and see if he will adjust the thread title name, I think most members would like that and hop on board for years to come.

Yeah, I was actually thinking of coming up with a comparison of my current FX-8350 and the Ryzen chip that I'll be getting. With Rendering/Gaming and usual benchmark tests.

One of our mods, Rogue Leader, is building a Ryzen system, and SR-71 Blackbird is building 2 1800X based systems.

I'm looking at upgrading my 4690K to an AM4 system but I am not entirely sure about that until I start seeing some benchmarks and temperatures. The nice thing is I will be able to do this for cheap by upgrading to the 1700X and all I would have to buy is the motherboard and CPU. Everything else I already have.

Yeah the price tag would be a bit hard for me to stomach at the moment especially since I'm buying a new laptop in the next month or so and that will set me back at least $1,000, maybe more.

The current FX8350 AMD build, with new RGB LEDs in. The wait for Ryzen is so boring. Please excuse the poor cable routing :D

I am holding off. I see no benefit from anything yet. I have a GTX 1080 that will do well for at least another year, extending my GPUs life as I planned to upgrade later this year.

My CPU is fine. I have it at 4GHz and so far no issues.

I am probably going to wait until there is a good platform and NVDIMMs. That's a true upgrade right there.

I think I will hold off as well for now. I don't see a point in paying $600+ for no benefit over my 4690K at the moment.

Honestly you should, after looking at a few videos along with amd's show casing.
If you don't mind 10 or 15 seconds for encoding videos, loading up programs or games its not much of a big deal.

Still kutos to amd they really did a good job on their new mainline chips.
I would say by next summer june, I'll go the am4 route unless intel gets off its price gouging cow to compete against amd.

If I do upgrade to Ryzen I will be doing so maybe over the summer. Right now I'm buying a new laptop and I'm heavily looking at the MSI GS73 Stealth. So all my money is going to go to my laptop. If I do buy a Ryzen CPU and motherboard it will be much later in the year when things have settled down a bit. I'm really impressed with Ryzen so far.

Nice! It's funny - people said that about both Skylake and Devil's Canyon when they first were released that they weren't good overclockers. Now people are saying that the 4690K and 6700K are great overclockers, and they overclock better than the current Kaby Lake processors. I think a lot of CPUs are like fine wines - they get better with age.

Indeed, people also seem to be forgetting that yes, these 8 core CPUs may only be gaining a few hundred MHz but it is over 8 cores and equates to a fair amount overall. It's always nice knowing you've ended up with one of the better examples too haha.

It's funny you say that, I ordered a 1700X from Amazon and then it got delayed so today I went to a local PC shop and picked one up for the same price... Went to cancel my Amazon order to find that it's too late. So tomorrow I'll be expecting a 2nd 1700X to arrive lol.

I'll really be interested to see Ryzen benchmarks a couple of months out when the dust settles. That is usually what makes or breaks a platform from my experience.

On the other hand I am getting very close to buying my laptop. I'm pretty much down to these two:

- MSI GS73 Stealth: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16...
- Sager NP6870: https://www.sagernotebook.com/cart_customize.php?produc...

I'm leaning more toward the Sager. Because I do a lot of traveling, I want a thin laptop with at least a 15.6" screen, and 17.3" is preferable. The MSI for sure meets that requirement. But do I go 6700HQ with a 1060 or 7700HQ with a 1050? :??:

Just be sure to login to amazon website and request a return and a complete refund, may take a week for a refund though.
@Lakimens amd chips have always been like that, this is why I prefer amd quads and hexacore.
Give it enough work and it'll breeze right through it, that 1055T I had in 2010 proves that while gaming and doing whatever else in the background.
