I recently purchased 512MB of DDR memory and it said it was single bank where as I have 256MB DDR and it says its double bank. Was wondering is there any big differences with this as far as performance wise?

Are you talking about single sided and double sided or are you talking about actual banks for interleaving?

When I went into sisoftware sandra it told me that my 512 that was in DIMM 1 was single bank and my 256 that was in DIMM 2 was dual bank.....so I actually have no clue what that means and sometimes I have problems with my desktop. Its like everything disappears besides my wallpaper sometimes and then comes back in like 5 seconds and it never done this til after I got my 512. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the single bank issue. my mobo said it could handle up to 1Gig of memory so I know im not pushing it. Another kind of software I have tells me that my 512 bank connections are RAS 0 and RAS 1 whereas my 256 bank connections are RAS 0 and RAS 35. I dont have much a clue on what that means...

Sorry for the delay. I have been busy and have not had a lot of time in the forums as of late.

Like in what I was asking before...

You are probably talking about single sided and double sided memory modules. Some people call that single-bank and double-bank memory.

That is probably not your issue.

I am inquisitive about what is telling you about RAS 0, RAS 1, and what the heck is RAS 35.

RAS 0 and RAS 1 can be pins. All DRAMs have them. There is also a DQ35 pin, but I am not sure that this is what it is talking about.

What other software are you using?

What motherboard and memory modules are you using? You can find all of the specs on the board and memory modules themselves.

Thanks for getting back with me...i'm not very smart with memory so bear with me. The Ras 35 is actually coming from a program called fresh diagnose. and as far as memory module...i have a crucial for the 512 and an off brand thats the 256. My motherboard is an ASUS A7N266-VM/AA with an nforce chipset.

Just download Aida32 its free look for it on any Google Search it will tell you what RAM you have installed and if there is any problems.

I can tell you for free a 512MB single sided and a 256MB double sided will not work in a Dual Channel role. Memory usually is sold in matched sets for that.

You also need aida32 to tell you if the 256MB or 512MB is unbuffered or buffered/certified.

You wont be able to mix the 2 different types and you could only really hope they are both unbuffered and rated for the same DDR MHz ratings then you could stuff them into the main motherboard and take advantage of the 768MB size of the combined 2 sticks.
