You can't SLi a 768MB GTX460 with a 1GB 460.
 

They can't be SLi'd because the memory interfaces are of different sizes, 192 Vs 256.

?? would 2 x 1gb 6850's in crossfire beat a single 2gb 5970 ??

i read the 'scaling' on the new 68XX series kicks ass & takes names in crossfire compared to the allegedly superior 58XX series which i believe to be only an improvement as a single GPU over the 68XX's

Great thread it was very informative. There i was looking for info on SLi and found this little beauty. My question is solved "would it be possible or worth it to SLI link my Nvidia 9600 GT with me soon to be purchased Nvidia GTX570"

Exactly. That is like Crossfiring an ATI 5970 with a ATI 4350.
