Sluggish 2D performance with MX440SE

Hi folks.

My GeForce MX440-SE 64MB AGP card is a dog under WinNT4 SP6. 2D rendering is ridiculously slow. Block redraws are a joke - the Mozilla mail notification popup takes like 10 or 20 seconds.

The same system - OS and drivers - running an FX 5200 PCI card is smooth and fast with 2D.

The MX440 card under Linux is smooth and fast.

Obviously I have a glitch in the WinNT/MX440 driver combo, but I can't find it...

Anyone got suggestions on how to sort this one? (The upgrade/reinstall kiddies can keep it to themselves)

You need to find some good drivers and adjust your settings...that's about as honest an answer I can give you bud...

Strangely enough, you're right. I got it mostly sorted just before you posted...

I was testing logged in as Administrator, which had default settings for the Nvidia 43.45 driver (latest listed for NT4). This worked fine, but when logging in as myself, it's slow - even with the FX card. Seems that the Desktop Manager which was active in my profile was messing things up. There's something it doesn't like in there somewhere, but I can live without the DM extensions.
