I cant be bothered arguing with JennyH anymore, she and her croney cause more thread locks than i can even be bothered to contemplate..

She is responsible for more flame wars than anyone else on here. Maybe she drinks alchohol when she starts typing and increases her dosage as the night goes on. Or the othere excuse is shes a self obsessed lunatic with a complete love for AMD.

I couldnt give a toss what brand of processor is in my pc. Its just a shame Intels architecture is not more open like the 486 was. But its all propriety now.

Hence my absense as ive got much better things to do like playing Connect 4 than wasting time on AMD Fan-idiots.

Need beer. Donuts, and an Inteligent conversation Fazers, whos in.

also the 250% price reduction point that means we will get money back by 150% when we go to the shops to buy one..

rebate processors anyone.

Ok so too many posts to read through all of them, kinda lazy right now, but I'm seriously not that impressed at all performance wise, if it comes in at $200 dollars take would be interesting, at least it would be true competition to 920/930, But performance wise it's really not that great, the PII X6 comes in behind the 975 in almost every chart, and the PII X6 has a 4.2ghz overclock, It has such a clock advantage and still loses in all but few benchs. The moment you overclock, your 920/930 to 4ghz, it's game over. And lets not forget programs that aren't threaded that well at this point will run much faster on the i7 compared to the phenom.

Just found something interesting regarding this comment. In the charts at 4.2ghz, the cpu is a 4x unkown, so exactly how accurate is this preliminary testing? that would pretty much explain why its barely faster than a P2 x4 cpu since it appears to be only testing with 4 cores instead of all 6.

Yep, pretty much my sentiments exactly. I already posted in another thread that if Bulldozer performs anywhere near where AMD's speculative benches put it, and Sandy Bridge doesn't live up to its expectations, then I'll chug a gallon of green Koolaid and switch to AMD for my next build. And I'm supposed to be the die-hard Intel fanboy :kaola: .

I think most people here are pretty much company-agnostic. There are a few "AMD cures cancer" or "Intel is evil" fanbois still, but they are in the tiny minority and deserve just being ignored. I've tried recently to fight fire with fire, while avoiding ad hominem, but that tactic doesn't discourage flames any more than just answering with the cold hard facts, plus it tends to p!ss off some of the more neutral types 😀.

Would be nice if we could just have a normal, somewhat polite & respectful discussion of the issues, but that takes the cooperation of all the posters, not just most of them.

IMHO, Jenny is just perenially discouraged & angry that AMD fails to live up to her hopes & expectations, & give Intel a sound thrashing for once 😛. Sorta like the princess who keeps kissing frogs hoping one will turn into her prince. Unfortunately for her, AMD has been fairly froggy for the last 4 years now.. MC certainly ain't the world-beater she had hoped for, and Thuban also doesn't look like it's gonna save the day. Certainly doesn't look like a candidate for "Worlds fastest desktop CPU" 😀.

Maybe BD will come through for her - let's hope so, although I think she'd find some other issue to bash us with :kaola: .

"Would be nice if we could just have a normal, somewhat polite & respectful discussion of the issues, but that takes the cooperation of all the posters, not just most of them. "

Lettuce berry de ketchup 😉

who is being disrepectful? sounds like to me jennyh hurt your intel feelings, and you just can't let it go can you? Jennyh didn't even post here untill someone said "where is jennyh?" its kinda like pushing someone to see if they will fight back just so you can go cry to mommy that she hit you. (cry to the moderator and get them banned).

The biggest issue I have with Intel supporters is they only see "Intel has the fastes cpu available so AMD sucks balls in every single way." Any time someone points out anything good about AMD, fanboys comes up with "Intel is better by using liquid nitrogen vs AMD on Air." or "Intel is better because they own Apple cpus and have a $999 CPU in a laptop." Some vendor somewhere will ALWAYS build a fastest laptop in the world, and fyi AMD used to have the fastest laptop, but to fanboys that doesn't ever matter http://www.widowpc.com/2005/08/fx-57_laptop.php

I'm a Liberal and I laughed at that one..😛 Good one..lol

Why? Because she enjoys or relishes insulting and demeaning others. Each time I start a thread (usually a fair and pretty even thread) she comes in with insults. The thread turns into a flame war. It's not about being "politically correct" but rather being respectful to one another. I'll admit that I haven't always been the calm, cool and collected person that I am now... but that being said... I'm not about to claim that everyone who owns an Intel platform is a lesser being (on an intellectual scale).

I've been banned about 5-7 times or so now (something like that)... do people pick on me because I've been banned before? No they do not. I'm sorry but that observation of yours is incorrect.

As for the rest of your post (which discusses petty political battles between AMD and Intel) I couldn't care less. I don't see how talking about the Pentium 4 or the AMD Athlon (in some sort of nostalgia ridden post meant to illicit an emotional response from individuals who may hunger for a return to those days of AMD glory... I WANT MY AMD BACK! lol sound familiar?) has anything to do with the topic of this thread.

Much respect for you but I just don't see your post adding anything to this discussion.

Peace.

The processing acceleration for AMDs K8 and K10(a) architectures are not as efficient as those for Intel's Nehalem architecture. Intel's caching and Hyperthreading technologies (as well as the triple channel memory interface and QPi link) allows Nehalem a higher degree of multiprocessing acceleration (more efficient) than the competition (in this case being AMD's K10(a)).

Therefore the more cores, the more efficient Nehalem is compared to K10(a) (at least this is the case with Cinebench and many other multimedia/3D imaging/Ray tracing applications). It's a tiny difference though.

Bulldozer should rectify this with it's ability to process two threads simultaneously per core (their own HT variant which appears to be even more efficient than HT from an Academic perspective).

PS.. I use K10(a) to differentiate from K10.. or Phenom II vs. Phenom.

This is a great thread…
I love how someone is called out, pocked fun at, and then all the hands involved say that they have done nothing wrong. Jennyh says “incorrect“ things a lot, but it seems like she knows she shouldn’t be saying it. Where as a hand full of you have blinders on and can’t even see that you’re incorrect as well.

So let’s get to the point of the thread; there is none. It was suppose to be a positive step forward and discussion of it but instead its bs. When it comes out we can talk about how it compares to our current cpu charts, then maybe this bickering won’t come up. When it comes up please leave your blinders at home.

An observation:

ElMo, not that I completely disagree with you (I am a liberal too), but the reason why jenny just loves to pick on you is because you always have an anti-AMD flavor in your posts. This anti-AMD "feeling" that you seem to propagate may not be intentional, but for some reason, it just irks people - especially jenny. I guess you could say that you're pretty condescending, almost arrogant, in the way you write.

The thing that bothers some people is that you try to portray yourself as unbiased (and even insist that you are), yet you still intangibly emanate a pessimistic, patronizing tone. While the fact that you reject or downplay almost every move AMD makes is annoying to some, it's not that fact alone that is wrong; everyone is biased, it's just that you refuse to admit it without excuse.

On another note, I'd like to address those that see Thuban as simply an X4 that will perform better in multi-threaded applications:

Although I have little basis for assuming that Thuban will have IPC improvements (per core), we do know that it will have AMD's own implementation of Intel's "Turbo Core" that, albeit not as elegant or efficient, will lend some single-threading benefits over current X4 processors. The reason why people are pointing out the improvements in Thuban's process is that the lower power consumption allows AMD to use six cores in the same thermal envelope. This is important for being able to compete with the more efficient i5 and i7 processors on the basis of efficiency.

Condescending and Arrogant? The issue there is quite simple (as I explain to folks on YouTube). I am not an English speaker (or writer) I am French. French people are often claimed as being arrogant and condescending (ever notice that?). The reason is simple... we have issues with adapting to the synonyms of the English language. With English... if you don't use words like "seems" or "plausible" or "perhaps" etc as well as some synonyms for other words... you end up sounding patronizing.

Am I knowledgeable? Yes and I wield that knowledge like a sledge hammer at times. My personality (duality) is that of a Superman (the ideal) and a Dark Knight (the reality). I seek the ideal but often fall back on the realities of my being (a.k.a ends justifying the means as an example).

I don't have a bend towards Intel. Those who perceive a bend are the ones who have a bend towards one particular company. You see, when AMD was king of the hill... I was accused of being an AMDfanboi. Now that Intel are king of the hill I am accused of being an Intel fan. The reality is that I support what I think is the superior product (performance matters the most to me). This support will show in my posts.

AMD has, since 2006, been releasing "boring" products. I'm not at all enthused with what AMD is doing in the CPU department (GPU department is another thing all together). Bulldozer may very well change that (I am enthused about the prospects afforded, at least in theory, by the AMD Bulldozer architecture). You see when I look at K10(a) all I see is a tweaked variant of K8. I find this dreadfully boring (the high reliance of FPU performance is, in my opinion, old school. GPUs now handle most FPU intensive tasks (and this is going to become more and more of a reality as OpenCL, CUDA and DirectCompute become more popular).

AMD has understood this and tailored Bulldozer's Execution pipeline in a way which emphasizes Integer performance (and they have taken a step back FPU wise just like Intel has been doing now for some time). AMD hopes to leverage the power of OpenCL and Direct Compute in order to use their GPUs to make up for the slight loss in FPU performance (a good move IMHO). AMD is selling a platform not a Processor (and Bulldozer may turn this strategy into a big money maker).

If you perceive me to be unjustly biased (and your reasoning for this is lacking).. then you are likely biased (and projecting your affection or admiration of a company onto me).

I'll come out and say it... unless you're on some budget, simply a gamer with no interests in anything else or are an AMD fanboi... you will likely see AMD as being *** right now (in the CPU department). I am not at all impressed with rehashed and recycled technology from 2003 (K8). Time for AMD to... feels weird saying this... innovate.

Thuban doesn't impress me... I have been getting similar performance to Thuban for a year now (Core i7). I mean... in the GPU department.. I'm not impressed with Fermi for the same reason... similar performance to Fermi here (with my 5970+5870 Tri-fire setup) since last fall. Not biased... simply realistic :)

Basically, You're just like me.

Not bias/fanboy to any 1 company. Just more or less get what you need ATM in time. Whether it performance or budget.

In reality, I think some people need to learn the difference between people being a fan of a company and a fan of performance.

Fanboy of a company: Will never switch to a competitor product.

Fanboy of performance: Will constainly switch to different companies to have the best they can get. (at least as far as the money can take them that is 😉 )

I am glad you have taken the time to give a thoughtful response. I apologize for falsely perceiving pretense in your opinions; I guess I never knew that you were French by simply reading your posts (speaking to you in person would have been a different story ), unless I missed it or thought it was a joke.

I completely agree with you in that AMD has had little for anyone to be excited about (except those who are aroused by the slightest of stimuli, i.e., teenagers). I also do not fail to acknowledge Intel's dominance in the CPU market. This is exactly why I've been waiting for Core i5 laptops to come down a couple hundred dollars. I, much like you it seems, am a fan of performance (and performance for the dollar, to an extent). On the other hand, I seem to always sympathize with the underdog, perhaps as a result of my desire to have prices come down.

Regarding Thuban, I am interested in what it potentially has to offer because I currently own an AM2+ based system. While I may choose to upgrade my platform to AM3, I may just wait altogether until bulldozer comes out and make a decision then. If I can't wait that long, then I will likely upgrade my system to an Intel-based platform. That way, I don't have to agonize over lack-of-an-upgrade-in-a-long-time-aphobia. :pt1cable:

"Intel feelings"?? ROFL.. Perhaps you've been watching too many ST-TNG episodes where Data gets a "feelings" or emo chip & proceeds to go crazy??

1. The reason jenny didn't post before wasn't because "someone said 'where is jennyh' - try coming off a 3-day ban instead.
2. Her posts are usually ever so wrong in both content and delivery. If you bothered to look over the last month's worth of threads on Thuban, you'd see stuff from her like "World's fastest desktop CPU" etc etc. Well the preliminary indications are that it is the World's Most Mediocre CPU. Whenever anybody attempts to point that out jenny she goes ballistic and flames the shorts off everybody.
3. You must have me confused with somebody else - I don't go baiting people in an effort to get them banned, and I have come to jenny's defense on that issue in the past.

Please do a bit of research in the future before you go around pinning labels on people, eh?

Lol you and elmo get waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to defensive. I mean seriously, i only had time to read this page but still....

Thank you for a thoughtful response as well :)

I do understand what you mean regarding Thuban and owning an AM2+ motherboard. I have two AM3 systems.. a Phenom II X3 720 and an X4 955. Both using AMD 790x based motherboards from Gigabyte (GA-MA790XT-UD4P).

I might upgrade the X3 720 as it is unlocked to 4 cores... but like many other X3 720s.. the memory controller is borked (cannot go higher than 1300MHz or blue screen on the DDR3 RAM).

Bingo! :)
