Condescending and Arrogant? The issue there is quite simple (as I explain to folks on YouTube). I am not an English speaker (or writer) I am French. French people are often claimed as being arrogant and condescending (ever notice that?). The reason is simple... we have issues with adapting to the synonyms of the English language. With English... if you don't use words like "seems" or "plausible" or "perhaps" etc as well as some synonyms for other words... you end up sounding patronizing.
Am I knowledgeable? Yes and I wield that knowledge like a sledge hammer at times. My personality (duality) is that of a Superman (the ideal) and a Dark Knight (the reality). I seek the ideal but often fall back on the realities of my being (a.k.a ends justifying the means as an example).
I don't have a bend towards Intel. Those who perceive a bend are the ones who have a bend towards one particular company. You see, when AMD was king of the hill... I was accused of being an AMDfanboi. Now that Intel are king of the hill I am accused of being an Intel fan. The reality is that I support what I think is the superior product (performance matters the most to me). This support will show in my posts.
AMD has, since 2006, been releasing "boring" products. I'm not at all enthused with what AMD is doing in the CPU department (GPU department is another thing all together). Bulldozer may very well change that (I am enthused about the prospects afforded, at least in theory, by the AMD Bulldozer architecture). You see when I look at K10(a) all I see is a tweaked variant of K8. I find this dreadfully boring (the high reliance of FPU performance is, in my opinion, old school. GPUs now handle most FPU intensive tasks (and this is going to become more and more of a reality as OpenCL, CUDA and DirectCompute become more popular).
AMD has understood this and tailored Bulldozer's Execution pipeline in a way which emphasizes Integer performance (and they have taken a step back FPU wise just like Intel has been doing now for some time). AMD hopes to leverage the power of OpenCL and Direct Compute in order to use their GPUs to make up for the slight loss in FPU performance (a good move IMHO). AMD is selling a platform not a Processor (and Bulldozer may turn this strategy into a big money maker).
If you perceive me to be unjustly biased (and your reasoning for this is lacking).. then you are likely biased (and projecting your affection or admiration of a company onto me).
I'll come out and say it... unless you're on some budget, simply a gamer with no interests in anything else or are an AMD fanboi... you will likely see AMD as being *** right now (in the CPU department). I am not at all impressed with rehashed and recycled technology from 2003 (K8). Time for AMD to... feels weird saying this... innovate.
Thuban doesn't impress me... I have been getting similar performance to Thuban for a year now (Core i7). I mean... in the GPU department.. I'm not impressed with Fermi for the same reason... similar performance to Fermi here (with my 5970+5870 Tri-fire setup) since last fall. Not biased... simply realistic
