[SOLVED] SSD Compatibility Check

Hi there
Currently, I have an Asus Prime B350M-E Motherboard running a Ryzen 1500x. I want to confirm if the following two SSD's are compatible with my system (as a boot drive) and which one should I choose. It's between Samsung 860 EVO 250GB SATA M.2 (2280) Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) (MZ-N6E250) and WD Blue NVME SN550 250GB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen3 Internal Solid State Drive (WDS250G2B0C).

Another question I have is do I need to check clearance for these SSD from my GPU? I mean is it standard to have enough clearance/area or do I need to check? Have you ever heard about clearance issues of m.2 SSD with GPU? I currently have a R9 390X which is one huge GPU.

Both are compatible. Choose whichever you want.
There's not much difference for boot drive.
860 evo might have a longer life.
WD SN550 will be a bit faster (you probably will not notice in everyday operations).

You'll have to remove graphics card to be able to install M.2 drive.
There can be no clearance issues (unless you intend to use some non-standard M.2 cooling system).

Installing a m.2 device on a motherboard will have no clearance issues that I have ever seen.

But, 240gb is about the minimum for a windows C drive these days.
You may well find that it fills up and you need more space.
How would you handle that?
Do you have a need for more storage?
Are you planning on using a separate HDD?
I might suggest spending a bit more up front and using a 512 or even 1tb to start with.
A very good option would be the intel 660P 1tb nvme drive which sells for about $130.
As an alternative, the conventional 2.5" samsung 860 QVO 1tb sata drive is $110.
You would not notice any difference in performance between the two.

I already have a 1 TB HDD, I'm just looking to add an SSD to install OS and maybe a couple of programs.

Then that's a perfect size for you.

but I will add that once you get used to the speed, you will wish you'd have gone bigger, much bigger.
