Question Strange issue with my PSU ?

Hello! This is my first time posting here.

So I have a very strange issue with my PSU. I bought it about 2 years ago due to a cheapo PSU that came with the case failing (thankfully didn't take anything else out with it). I have a Cooler Master MWE 650 Bronze V2 230V PSU. Ever since I got it I've had this issue.

Basically with my previous PSU, when I would Shutdown my PC, the drive activity light would blink a few times before shutting off, which indicates that the boot SSD has completely written everything and shuts-off. Take a Raspberry Pi for example. It blinks consistently for a few seconds before shutting down. But with this PSU, It doesn't do that. It shuts off with a relay click as soon as the secondary HDD spins down. This is completely unusual behavior which I can confirm does not happen with another PSU I tested with.

This causes slow boot times. It went from just under 2 seconds, to about 10-15 seconds to boot. I'm worried this will reduce the life of my SSD. Weirdest part was, about 9-10 months after I bought this PSU, this problem went away. But that coincided with me getting another problem with this PSU, which made the HDD Spin up and down constantly. So I RMA'd it under warranty and got the same model PSU as a replacement. But this replacement has the same issue with the SSD.

How do I fix this? It's driving me crazy. I tried disconnecting the secondary HDD, to no avail... Tried changing some BIOS Settings, to no avail... Please help.

Specs:-
PSU:- Cooler Master MWE 650 Bronze V2 230V PSU (I know it's a little too much)
SSD:- VTRUST 256GB NVMe (Boot Drive)
HDD:- Seagate Barracuda 1TB (ST1000DM010) SATA III (6.0 GbPS) (Secondary Drive)
RAM:- Crucial 2x8GB @ 2667mhz DDR4 (IDK the exact specs but I think CL19)
CPU:- Intel Core 13-10100 @ 3.6GHz 4 cores 8 threads
GPU:- Nvidia GTX 1630 (Don't judge me for it...) from MSI (MSI Ventus XS 4G OC)
MOBO:- MSI H410m Pro-VH.

No, CM MWE 650 Bronze isn't enough. It is low quality PSU.

Wattage wise, yes, it is enough, but not on build quality wise and that is the main problem.

How do I fix this?

Only option is PSU replacement and that, with good quality PSU.

Good PSUs to go for, are: Seasonic Focus/Vertex/PRIME, Corsair RMx/RMi/HXi/AXi, Super Flower Leadex Gold/Platinum/Titanium.

(My 3x PCs are also powered by Seasonic. I have 2x PRIME TX-650 units and one Focus PX-550 unit. Full specs with pics in my sig.)

550W unit does fine for your build. 650W unit doesn't hurt either.

NEVER cheap out on PSU! Since PSU powers everything, it is the most important component inside the PC.

And even if you buy a poor PSU, PSU RMA will get you the same junk as a replacement, as you've already found out;

So I RMA'd it under warranty and got the same model PSU as a replacement. But this replacement has the same issue with the SSD.

So, do look towards good quality PSU, like the ones i talked about above.

The whole build is equally weak-ish. So, what's there to judge just over GPU? 🤔
Still, just because the rest of the build is low-end, it doesn't mean that PSU can be cheaped out on. Cheap, low quality PSUs produce all sorts of issues, like you've already found out.

Thank you for your reply. I meant the wattage was too much. Yes, quality wise the PSU isn't great. I was unaware of it at the time. Now I think it's time to replace it. I know that I shouldn't have cheaped out on the PSU. And the old one that came with the case I was trying to replace it, but it failed on me literally while I was trying to get a new one LOL. And yes, I know my build is pretty weak, but I just wanted to see what I could do with such a build... Thank you again for your quick response. Have a great day!

It's solid office/web browsing PC. Gaming is on the weak side. Either 1080p Low or 720p.

Plop in GTX 1070/1660/1660 Ti and you're looking 1080p High/Ultra gaming, since CPU is enough for such gaming. Also, 16 GB RAM is enough for most games.
But new PSU is a must.

Sorry I forgot to mention that... It's the MSI MAG A650BN and it's brand new. I made sure to check reviews and also on the PSU Tier list. It received a 4.5 star rating on Amazon and it's a Tier C PSU on the tier list... Another weird thing is I contacted my friend who has the same Cooler Master PSU as me except 550W and he doesn't have this problem. Maybe it's hinting at some other problem? It's also weird that this problem only started with the cooler master and would consistently not appear on an old PSU I tested with...

Care to link a reputable review? Since i only found one Russian preview. And don't link Youtube videos of customer feedback, since those aren't a PSU review, let alone reputable review.

You can not trust Amazon customer feedback.

Same as your previous Cooler Master MWE V2 Bronze is. So.... 0 improvement on the PSU's build quality part.

Maybe someone else comes along and helps you further, but clearly, you've completely disregarded everything i said about PSU's build quality and importance of PSU.

If you want to cheap out on PSU, which you did again and use the junk, go ahead. Your PC. But i'll throw in the towel.
