Question System Freezing after upgrading RAM to 32GB @ 3600MHz from 16gb @ 3000MHz ?

Hello,

I just upgraded my ram to Corsair VENGEANCE RGB PRO 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4 3600 , from Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 DRAM 3000MHz, and already had: the motherboard GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS PRO and an i7-9700k.

Upon upgrading it, I booted into the BIOS, selected 'Profile 1' XMP which was at 3600MHz, and launched my PC. I was able to load a few applications, launch a game, play through a raid (EFT), and then everything froze (all images were completely still, computer sounded like fans were churning, headset/keyboard/mouse disconnected).

Rebooted, did the same thing.. crashed again. Swapped out to my previous kit (16gb @3000MHz using XMP), things seemed to run fine.. ran a few raids, opened a bunch of applications to 'stress' it. Was unable to get it to go down.

Swapped back to the new 32GB kit, thought maybe it was an issue with how I sat the ram... same issue crashing (this time it lasted longer, but I think the duration is irrelevant).

Now I am down to 2666MHz, which seems to be stable (have not done enough strenuous to guarantee that).

Searching around, saw some information that it could be an issue that I am using slots 1 & 3, instead of 2 & 4? Also saw some information that it might be that my motherboard (according to amazon) only supports up to 2133MHz.

I tried to find information regarding this via the manual.
Only saw this:
Channel A: DDR4_A1, DDR4_A2 Channel B: DDR4_B1, DDR4_B2
This makes me think they are suggesting the channel(s) are slot 1&2, 3&4, but I am pretty confident I am just understanding that wrong.

I'd really like to benefit from the full 3600MHz. The BIOS said it was 3600MHz @ 1.39v via the XMP profile. Nothing else is OC on the system, not very familiar with OCing at all.

Hey there,

Try setting the ram timings/voltage manually rather the with XMP. You have all you need for that in the table above. If that doesn't work then you might look at RMA'ing them.

I moved from slots 1+3 to 2+4, I am yet to crash so... hopeful. I did notice in the XMP profile via BIOS when I moved slots... in 1+3 it was showing 1.39v, but now in 2+4 it is showing 1.35v for the 3600MHz (same as last night).

This is kinda interesting to me, and wondering if there are any thoughts on why that is?

Going to proceed to stress it and will post results.

Not to mention, found this today via GIGABYTE, to which they state "Install the modules into DDR4_A2, DDR4_B2 for better compatibility."
