Task Manager seems busy

When I open Windows Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) under Processes,I see
over 40 various names. Some of these I can identify, others with SYSTEM etc.
titles.

There seems to be very little CPU usage, but they all have figures for Mem.
usage.
Is this OK!, or could I cut down the number?

I am no expert, but perhaps qualify as intermediate ability.
Any help please in layman's terms.

It depends on what you have installed and running. Having 35-45 items
listed there isn't really that unusual, especially if you have a few
utilities being loaded each time you start the computer (AV software, 3rd
party firewall, etc.).

If your system if performing OK, then probably no need to worry. However,
it is always good to keep things tidy, so suggest you start with the "Take
Out the Trash" section on MVP Jim Eshelman's http://aumha.org/a/health.htm
page then browse through the rest of that article. You will probably also
want to run MSConfig to check what is being loaded each time you start your
computer. See this page on Jim's site for additional information about what
should/shouldn't be loading at each boot-up: http://aumha.org/a/loads.htm

Yes that's okay I currently have 42 running. You'll have alot espesally if
more than one user is logged on at once.

The best way to cut down the number is to go to Start - Run and type
msconfig. Click the startup tab and see if there are any uneeded programs
running at startup.
