I've been playing for a while and still am amazed at finding out new things
every day. Yesterday while playing, I entered a room and saw a piece of
armor stepped onto it and got the message "You see a pair of walking shoes.
Rust in Peace." After scratching my head for awhile I continued exploring
the level. It took me a little while to figure out what had actually
happened. Any guesses?

Bones from an iron golem player killed by a rust trap/monster
while wearing unchanging? (But where would be the "oU?)

Seriously, 'grep Rust *' in nethack-3.4.3/src/ doesn't give
any hints. How's that message created?

Best,
Jakob

src/mhitm.c: pline("May %s rust in peace.", mon_nam(mdef))
src/trap.c: pline("May %s rust in peace.",

If I'm reading the source right, a tame iron golem was killed by a rust
trap or by a rust attack while it was not in sight.

(Confirmed in wizmode with a blindfold and a few figurines.)

Interestingly, "rot in peace", and "roast in peace" also exist in the
game, but only apply to attacks.

Bug? Oversight? Shouldn't paper/straw golems get a 'roast in peace'
when they step on a fire trap?

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is
not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they
are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them
as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

Yes. I had a pet iron golem who was wandering around the level. I had magic
whistled for it later and it didn't show up. I finally found the rust trap
with a pile of iron chains and put it all together.

Were the chains rusty?

No the chains were fine. I didn't have a wand of undead turning but would it
have worked on the pile of chains? He really was a good pet even though he
was slow.

You enter an opulent Throne Room.

You see here a singing lion.
You see here a singing straw golem.
You see here a singing iron golem.
You see here a singing Tourist wearing a blue gingham dress and red shoes.
You see here The Wizard of Yendor (hiding behind a curtain).

The singing iron golem steals your The Heart of Ahriman from you.
The singing iron golem eats The Heart of Ahriman.
The singing straw golem quaffs a blessed potion of enlightenment.
The singing straw golem casts cone of cold.
The singing lion quaffs a potion of speed.
The singing lion attacks. The singing lion hits.
The Wizard of Yendor quaffs a cursed potion of gain level. The Wizard of
Yendor floats off in a balloon.

The Tourist kicks at you with her red shoes. The Tourist hits.
The Tourist summons an army of winged monkeys.
The Tourist summons an army of ugly colorful singing Gnomes.
The Tourist summons an army of ugly colorful singing Dwarves.

I *could* have thought of case-sensitivity of grep,
if I had had a little more sleep lately..
