Question testing a gen 4 nvme m.2 slot using a gen 3 m.2 nvme

Hi guys,

if a gen 3 nvme works in a gen 4 m.2 nvme slot of a motherboard, does that mean the slot is ok?

I am asking this because I have ordered MSI b550 gaming plus motherboard.

And I need to check the slots of the new motherboard upon arrival.

But I only have a gen 3 nvme drive Kingston a2000.

There is no way to test Gen 4.0 performance without a Gen 4.0 drive.

If the motherboard specs say gen4, then assume it is correct and go forward.
In the unlikely event that the slot is not gen 4, you will not be able to tell any difference in actual use.
