The light on ethernet port wont come

Hello,
Suddenly, the light on desktop ethernet port won't come on. Does that mean the ethrnet hdwe has gone bad? Cable=same; internet access=yes laptop works fine; can the ethernet card go bad?

If the ethernet port works, all is fine; maybe the LED has gone bad. The LED is just an indicator. Nice to have, but has no other functional value.
