I have no issues with the H100i. Works well and opens lots of space in the system. The only down side is how long the pump and coolant last. I actually have an H80i and it is working perfect for my use(free up space and its pump is very quiet.).

tiny voices, I used to use lots of Zalman heatsinks(cpu and video cards). Always got the job done(and was quiet enough with a fan controller). Mostly moved away to things like the CNPS 10X Flex and other tower coolers because I could pick my own fan.

I don't doubt that in many applications it works well, I just couldn't justify spending that much on a cooler where you can get equal performance from an air cooler for almost half the price. They are great for smaller builds were space is a premium though. I agree there.

Well the tc14pe is around $90 and the h100i can be had for $100-110. I want the phanteks but I dont want to have to base my next mobo cpu purchase around a cooler. I guess once the new z97 or w/e boards drop then I will try and find one with morr then 2 pcie slots so I can move the gpu's around and squeeze in the phantek.

Tiny - What did the H100i ever do to you lol. I know it is a bit pricey but money doesnt seem to be an issue for azz and it would match this build...Lol why didnt you tell me not to get the H100i? I would recommend this to anyone. But if they have $300, I say go custom.

Well actually it performs the same or better. It beats the NH-D14 by 3-4 degree in all the tests I've seen like the one I linked and the NH-D14 loses to the h100i by 1-3 degrees depending on the test, so if you do the math the Zalman performs identical to the h100i or beats it by 1 degree.

Some people prefer the looks, that is fair. This is why people buy a new BWM 335i when you could have the same performance for $12,000 less from an EVO or an STI.

I just watched a youtube video of the zalman 9900max getting beat pretty good by the v6gt cm cpu cooler..........I want the dang phanteks and may still get it......I dunno. What are the real downsides to clc like the h100i? The price of it isnt a huge deal if its gonna get me the best cooling but I do NOT want to do custom loop cooling.

The only real downsides are the pump failing. (not too common but definitely happens) and leaking. (again not too common but it has and does happen). And noise.

Some people consider just having a closed loop cooler IS a downside as they do not look at it as "real water cooling". This kind of stupid and childish no matter how true it may actually be.

It is not going to get you "the best cooling". That is a subjective thing anyway. Is it "the best cooling" if it is 2x as loud as an air cooler that could get within 1 degree of it?

I personally would go air.

With my h100i and 4770k oc'd to 4.6, I never hear the fans on the cooler. Im using these fans, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181040, and leaving them on quiet mode in the corsair link software keeps my cpu under 70c at load.

Agreed, a 2500k at 4.5ghz can easily stay under 60c with a cheap CM Hyper 212evo. An h100i/ 9900MAX/ NH-D14 would keep it probably 5-8 degrees cooler than that. This is why I skipped Haswell.

The same overclock on a Haswell CPU would require those high end coolers to even keep it in the "safe" range.

Yeah, I miss the 2500k, was so easy to push to 4.5 on the hyper 212 I had then. Not that I really need the OC on the 4770, the real gaming difference is negligible. And no need for props for getting it to 4.6, i just got a "good" chip.
