Tiny- Ah, I love the caymen. Beautiful car. END OF DISCUSSION. Lol

Lutfij, how can a PC enthusiast like you LIVE with that type of internet? Is internet expensive there or is it hard to find fast internet or what?

Well before wireless LAN there were still routers that offer more functionality than a basic switch or hub. They manage the DHCP and direct traffic over the local network. It has functions over a switch regardless of the new WiFi capabilities that are pretty much imperative. So I would recommend just getting a nice consumer router. $100-$200 usually lasts you a few years with decent performance. Stay away from the $40-$80 routers. It took me a while to learn.

A hub is an unintelligent device. What comes in any port is sent out every other port.
A router is programmed for which ports get which IP traffic. It is usually used between network nodes to route traffic coming from each one to the "right" destination port, and is an infrastructure device.
A switch is also a router, but it quickly learns what devices are on what ports. What comes in any port only gets fed to the port where its destination IP lives. If you use only hubs on a large network, it will bog down with traffic. Use switches, and traffic will flow much more smoothly.
Any of these could have wireless.
Cheap routers don't last. They also tend to have poor antennas.

I go off for a few hours and this thread is flooded:ouch:  that's a healthy sign!

Those asking about my lame connection, Sad but true, the internet around my country is expensive but I can live with it. Its not like I do video conferencing - I go to my client sites and have that in person over a cup of tea and some grub :D

I don't multiplayer game either as I am much more busy with design and consultancy.

With that score by Jim and my courtesy of my vivid imagination via anime viewing, I'm picturing him in a animatrix setup...bleeding fast internet where the eyes bleed from too much surfing!

With voice (but wireless N):

The one I am buying (I have a nice router and don't want the monthly rental fee of modem\telephony -- besides I want my gateway to be the router not the modem):

Note: 8x4 modems are soon to be outdone by 16x4 channel modems.

Hello Neo. The Matrix is real.

I'm in the midst of consolidation our connections to the outside world. Do any of you guys have any experience with MagicJack? It looks like an excellent alternative to our current DSL phone service, and is also Fax compatible.

Canada has the worst internet rates compared to what you guys are getting. Thanks to our 2 giant ISP's (Bell, and Rogers) and the crappy, inactive, and useless CRTC (same as FCC) for letting them continue to promote bad business practices, and creating this terrible monopoly we're in. The only thing they have done that, is now we have 2 year cell phone contracts, but that's about it.

I'll either have to move to the US, Kansas for Google fiber, and cheaper stuff too, or go with Bell's fiber when I have my own place in the future lol.

Onus - Yeah when we lived in The UAE we would talk to our family using Magic jack....We have a magic jack pro downstairs....in the kitchen drawr because we have no use for it now but when my dad connected it to his macbook and paid for magicjack, we loved it. Its great so I recommend it.

Google voice. Initial number is free with free nation wide calls and text. Works well and considerably cheaper than MajicJack.

I've heard horror stories about MJ. Some can be seen on their FB.
