If I were to install a new Hard drive that has a copy of Windows XP on it, I would install it as a blank hard drive, go to the boot menu, boot from my normal Win 7 install, and initialize and wipe the new hard drive and set it up as a simple volume, right?

Yes you should be able to erase a Windows XP drive in 7. You can even erase another Windows 7/8/8.2/10 drive or partition if you want to.

You just delete the unneeded volume(XP only has one while Vista and 7 tend to have 2. 8/8.1/10 can have more depending on the setup). My Windows 10 has one before and one after Windows.

Just wanted to make sure... I'm grabbing a 250 gig laptop HDD off a friend of mine... Gonna use it for steam and Linux ISO's... all the Linux Iso's... may experiment with a linux install since it is on a different HDD

It is highly advisable to disconnect the Windows drive when installing linux(or even other versions of Windows).

Sometimes they like to mess with each others boot manager.

The only time you run into real issues with locked partitions from pre built system makers(recovery partitions). If you have these you may need to do a little more work to remove them. Live linux distributions may also be used to clean up a drive if needed.

nice find there. last week before thanksgiving tigerdirect had the 500gb 850 evo for $124.99 after the 25 off 100 code. but this is a new low if you decide to sell the game key for maybe $20. that could potentially make the effective price around $110. score.

The game is $60 on Steam. So if you were going to buy it anyway you can get the drive for $73.

meh, i see game keys on ebay currently in the $20-30 range so to be conservative on the price, but there is no way in hell i would pay $60 for any video game ever. i feel sorry for people who cannot at least find the $49 release date deals on games and usually a couple weeks to a couple months later you can get the game for $35. i paid $37 for a battlefront origin key from ebay over the weekend and its only been like two weeks.

but yes, for those who possibly were going to spend $60 on the game, it is an even more screaming deal.

I haven't messed with multiple drives. I have done triple boots with Windows and Linux mixed up on ONE hard drive, and 8 Windows installs spread across two Hard Drives, one of which is in a hot swap bay. I DO need to learn how to mess with GRUB.

As for recovery partitions, this HP has one, but I have 0 need for it because I have my window's keys and a Windows Install USB right here... along with Linux.... Yes, I am a guy who keeps Linux and Window's USB's on him... You never know.

I'm somewhat afraid to delete the partition because HP may have done something. I've shrinked it by about 5 gigs, but that space doesn't go to the main partition due to how they set it up...

That is very tempting... Very. To bad it is free sync, won't be able to utilize that unless I do buy a used 290 or something.

I have gone to Microcenter and just started at 4k and 1440p screens, They look the same to me. I can see a bit of differance from 1080p to 4k, but not many big differences.

You know like 90% of those keys are fake right?

There was a site who was accused of selling fake keys, but the site, in response to the accusation, just showed where the key was bought.

Although I still dont buy keys from sites like those. All on steam directly when on sale

Yeah I'm having a ridiculously hard time deciding between going ultra wide or going 1440P / 4K. I would love to get a 4K but they're not cheap, and 1440P right now is looking more affordable and more attractive, but that price on the ultra wides is too good to pass up.

Pretty easy choice actually. If you game and only have or want to run a single card 1440p is the way to go. If you have or want to run multiple cards then go 4K. If gaming isn't that big a deal then go 4K. But go look at a 4K monitor before you buy. Everything scales very small at 4K unless you get a huge screen.

I purposefully went 32" 1440p over 27" 1440p just because the 32" scales text the same size as a 24" 1080p screen.

All that may change next year with the next gen card releases. But you will have to buy a flagship card of the next gen to get single card 4K performance and who knows when they will be released or what they will cost.

That's exactly what I'm worried about right now with my monitor selection. 4K would be ideal but if I have to pay $700 for the highest end Pascal card then forget it, I'll go with 1440P instead. I would like to get a 980TI or the next generation card but $700 is a lot of money for such cards. But the nice thing is since my rig runs Haswell I don't need to buy a new CPU for some time.

I stuck with 1440P because 1) I have a single GTX970 now, don't foresee spending the money to replace it with an overpriced flagship; I prefer smaller systems where a second card may not be an option, and 2) I now have a 4K monitor at work, and the text is really too small.

I might go to Micro Center one day and look at monitors. I want to go 4K but at the same time I don't want to pay for an ultra high end GPU to be able to run it. Especially since I'm invested in Fallout 4 now.

Eyyyy AP Bio... Pulling a 86 ish thanks too my teacher putting in assignments right before the grading schedule ends...

Costco is not getting any Nexus 6's for Verizon anymore... What does a man have too do to get an unlocked bootloader on Verizon without shelling out the 600 bucks up front..

Dam, that sucks. I plan on moving to android soon or something similar, I have been eying or eyeing, whatever the word, looking at a OnePlus Two. Seems really nice, and maybe after a few patches, It could be the phone I want.

389$ for a 64 gig model..

Wow, it arrived. This 2K is nice. No dead pixels, and text remains visible. It's a little bright right now, but that's before any adjustments. It looks good.
Edit: After some adjustments, it is more comfortable. I think this was a good choice.
