I just bought some Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste because i was reading everywhere that it is THE paste for cpu's and so well i am not seeing ANY difference with this stuff compared to the standard white paste i had before. My cpu is an AMD athlon 3200+ with the standard boxed cooler and before AS5 i was idling at 35, 36 and after putting AS5 it is the exact same temperature. I cheked under load (games) and it still goes to 48 with AS5. And i have real good airflow in this system. I've also put AS5 on my gfx card gpu and i see no difference here either. I've been building systems for 10 years now so it's not a case of newbie not putting it righ kinda problem. I just wanted to ask this question here and see if you guys have had the same experience or if you have comments pleaze share them

Many tx guys

Those 10 years must not have taught you alot. You have to let the compound sit for about a week or 2 for it to make full contact, after that time, you'll see temps drop. Since you're using stock HSF, don't expect 5c drops though.

ok i did not know about the one week thing there thank you for that. Even after 10 years of building systems and i am the first one to say i still learn everyday. you are saying that the paste needs to settle or soemthing ? I will monitor temps daily to see if anything goes down after a week or so.

Now for HSF I will go for an after market cooler soon i will probably go with a zalman cooler since i already have one on my gfx card (VF700-Cu) and i am very pleased with it -no fan noise and good cooling.

Well, you need to basically let it burn in.

Run Prime95, to force the CPU at 100 percent usuage.. let that run a few of nights.

But still takes 200 hours for it to totally cure.

No, Pengwin, you SHOULD use your PC, and torture it. Run your CPU at max and let that shit do its job.
