you should be able to find yourself there about 3-6 hours after you send in your first work unit. Search the site for your username.

3-6 hours of continue work on it? looks like i still have long journey to finish my work im still in 450/5000 and need to finish on apr 1st

If you really want to boost your output and do something really useful, there are only about 700 GPu folders. The level of complexity of what you fold is about 100x what your CPU can fold and you can generate two units in a 24 hour period. You do have to have a ATI X1900 or X1950 to do this. The X1650 and X1800 will do it but are slow. I am running a AMD 185 with 2 X1950 pros and generate 1260 points a day if the Beta doesn't crash. Granted I am an alpha/beta tester and run some experimental stuff like supporting the two GPu's with one core and running a regular Gromac on the other cpu core which throws in an extra 300 points every 60 hours when things go right. I also end up with quite a number of Early Unit Ends (180 or so)so the average score per unit is low as we debug the software. I have generated 26,714 points since January 5th when I returned to windows beta testing for the GPU. Most was with a single GPU. Average is 320 points aday. It has ony been the last 2 weeks that the registry hacks have allowed me to run two cores simultaneously with the cpu. If you don't believe me look up checka on the contibutor list. About 180 of the units are EUE's due to software crashes. If you run 5.94 there shouldn't be any crashes. A few hundred do the GPU folding and you won't have to worry about the PS3 boys.

The SMP client is even better, If you have a dual-core processor, you should be running the SMP client. I can do over 2000ppd on Linux, about 1200 on Windows.

It's not going to be easy to beat these damn PS3 foldings ...
I think TG should buy some of us PS3s so we can work it out :)
Already working on it, though I haven't figured out yet how to add team 40051 to my profile yet. Folding on my PC, PS3, and soon GPU as well.

could i ask those who work with the SMP client how big the WU's are to return and whether or not you know if a hyperthreading (P4 630 @ 3.4ghz, 1.5 gigs ram) computer would be able to the WU deadlines (64-bit linux client that is)

Thank you,
Ara

I think the real reason they are catching us so fast is because the number of members they have. I.e. 1300 compared to our 570 and most of their members are active since the team is new. I'm still waiting for my R600 I'm sure that will kick a PS3's butt.

i was trying to use the smp version and anyone knows what these kind of error i recieve?

Has anyone else had trouble sending work units today? Finished one this morning, but it hasn't been able to connect to the results server. I'm not using IE settings (which seems to often be the culprit in cases like this) - am I missing something else, or is it just down temporarily?

Cheers

i know, it's about time we got our own folding section. especially with some of our threads being all over the place.

I am trying to get GPU folding up, and I keep getting an application failed to start because d3dx9_30.dll could not be found. Any ideas? I am trying with an ATI x1900 AIW (could that be the problem?), with Directx 9c installed. I am hoping to get that going n my GPU, and have one of my cores doing CPU folding at the same time whenever my machine is idle.

[Edit] Found the problem, that file is missing even though I have the proper DX9c version installed. I may have to reinstall DX9?[/Edit]

The SMP client is even better, If you have a dual-core processor, you should be running the SMP client. I can do over 2000ppd on Linux, about 1200 on Windows.

Currently, you're my only threat on the THG list. KlamathBFG was doing very well, but he hasn't run folding in over a month now. I've also been pointing out to people that the SMP client will generate more points than the GPU one. Stanford awards SMP because it's the most flexible client while also being very productive.

Since the Windows SMP client came out, I've been able to put a 32-bit Yonah processor to real work. Before it was getting about 200-240 points/day, counting both cores. Now it will do 540 ppd. This shows to me that the Windows SMP client isn't doing as well as the Linux 64-bit version (which gave me 4x the points/day on my desktop), but still it's an improvement. I look forward to version 6 of the client, to be released very soon. I hope they will have 32-bit Linux SMP available by then.

So my current status:

Smithfield 2.8 GHz: 900 ppd
Yonah 1.66 GHz: 540 ppd
Banias 1.3 GHz: 30-50 ppd

on order: X2 3600+ (hope it does better than the PD)

- I just cracked the top 50 on the THG list. Woot!

- I also noticed a major jump in the number of active (and new) folders on the team. Awesomeness!

Other's have made the suggestion before, and have been directed to the "distributed computing" section. There are a few threads, such as this one, over there. It wouldn't take much to turn that secion of the forums into a centre of discussion about folding@home, but no one has posted in that section since I did well over a week ago.

I'd happily continue this thread over there if anyone would care to join me.

My guide I wrote for THG Folding Sig's back on page 60 last year 8)

Hi knightrous, I've re-posted your guide over in the distributed computing section as it's own thread, so hopefully this very useful information will be easier to find in the future.

For the uploads that I've noted, I believe they are on the order of 10 MB. As for running the SMP client using a hyperthreading P4, it's not recommended by Stanford, but then, neither is running SMP on mere dual-core computers, which really handle the WUs just fine. I'd say give it a shot and see how it does. You'll know within a couple hours whether or not your machine will meet the deadline, as I've found pretty good consistency regarding time/frame for a given WU. Just be concious of how long you expect the WU to complete compared to the deadline. Deadlines may be extended when SMP moves out of beta testing, but you can also expect the points bonus to be reduced at that time.

see, the problem i have with trying it is the file size, it's difficult for a modem user to upload 10mb, it could be done in 1 1/2 hours but i can't do much else during that time... so for now i'm going to stick to two seperate instances...

Thanks,
Ara

I'll try to watch the next time a file goes in so I can let you know. It's an understanable problem, the dial-up and file size issue.

March is over, and we have a new record total for the month: 1,408,551! We're getting very close to 1.5M. We had an average of 45,437 points/day in March, which is actually down a bit from 49,097 points/day in February. I think April will be a strong month, though, especially if there are any PS3 users that join the team. It's nice to see the publicity the project has gotten over the last week.

Cheers,

HotFoot

just noticed that the link to our folding website on the forumz index page is dead... i guess that looks bad and i can't remember who was responsible for that page now to PM them. Can't be good for new members now can it?

^^in case you don't feel like going to the index page^^

Ara

edit: don't know if it's just a temporary problem...

You know, I didn't even know that page existed until today. Now I wish it were up and running so I could see what it's about.

As for the SMP uploads, I'm sorry I missed the last one. I'm not smart enough to have a network usage logfile, so I have to actually catch the machine while it's uploading a WU. Unfortunately, my Linux SMP client isn't working properly since the last WU was handed in. I discuss the topic at a Folding@Home troubleshooting thread that I'm trying to get started over in distributed computing.

My new HTPC equipment will be ready to be picked up this afternoon. I've got my Desktop hardware reassembled into the tower case and a much more competent HSF working on it now. I've gone from 15% underclock back to 3.5 GHz on my PD820. This should help the ppd production once the SMP client issue is worked out. Oh yeah, that and the new X2 I'll have crunching soon.

wasn't anything too special... but having a broken link isn't good either way, i honestly can't remember who was in charge, but it was one of the big original folders i think. it had some basic info about the team and folding basically...

we have a few 'main' people who visit once in a while now, they used to be on a lot before: stefan, cunninglinguist, EntityAnomally(sp?)... sorry if i forgot someone...
