hi all just got my new E6600 running at stock speeds and started doing folding :) , time wise ?? im doing 1% every 15 mins ?? is this good or bad ? oh and its a 2610 WU

That's not too shabby of a time for that WU. You'll be getting about 1600 points/day that way. For the Windows SMP client, that's pretty good.

Thanks for the reply

I will try to contact them

As for speed
about 8 min per 1%

2745 is the WU

EDIT

clocking up with ATT gets it around 6 min per 1% but its just a pain. It's 2d/3d detection is not too good. Ohh well i will use it with 2d clocks for now. Since CCC will not let me clock up unless there is a 3D app running. and if i run a 3D app F@H closes.

I thought I posted this before but anyhow,

Woohoo, I just made it into the top 100 users.

Go THG.

Anyone know of a simple tutorial on the net for installing WMware server and a linux 64bit distro (ubunto preferably)?

Cheers
Lyall

Let me know how the tutorial goes Lyall, since I wrote it I haven't had any feedback. I wanna know if I made any errors, or if anything didn't work for you, etc.

Cutthroat: I haven't read the tutorial yet because I have one concern, so far I have been too busy to research it. Maybe you can shortcut that for me. Can VMware be set up to use only Idle processor time the way FAH can? Then I could let it run witout having to dedicate a certain amount of my processor to it.

Uhm, sorta. The Linux SMP client runs at low CPU priorty, so basically it only uses idle CPU cycles. But VMware does not, it will eat up some significant memory. It's fine if you are not doing anything intensive with the PC. When I am gaming or for any reason need all my PC's resources I shut down VMware.

I'm not that worried about the memory, my question is do I have to worry about VMware taking a constant number of CPU cycles or will it only use those that windows is not using?

Hi Cutthroat,

Unfortunately my CPU (AMD64 4000+) is not compatible with VMWare 64bit. Apparently you need at least a AM2 chipset processor. Might try later with 32bit version of Ubunto but I'm not sure if there will be any processor performance gain.

Anyone else looking at doing the same thing should read the below article:

A tool to check your processor can be found here:

I might also try Microsofts virutal server 2007.

Lyall,

There wouldn't be much point (yet) trying 32-bit ubuntu. The linux SMP client runs on 64-bit linux only. There should be a 32-bit linux client available in the near future. I was sure they'd have that out before the Windows one, but I'm still hoping for it by the end of the month.

As long as the work is showing up on the servers, it must just be a glitch on your side. Once you finish your next WU and it's handed in, just wipe and do a fresh install.

I had a situation where I completed a WU, but when I tried sending it in, there was no record of it at the servers, so they wouldn't accept it. It wasn't a huge one (the last of the single-threaded WUs I did), so I'm just forgetting about it.

I've got a strange problem, for some reason our sig images aren't loading for me for the last 24 hours or so. Instead I get this error message...

Error: image could not be loaded. Image is not available from server

Image URL: http://tinyurl.com/yrkqsu/.gif

If I click the link it loads the image. Worst part is any thread I or anyone else with this sig posted in I can't load in reasonable time (it took 10 minutes to open this thread on Firefox). Are you guys having this problem too?

I'm not that worried about the memory, my question is do I have to worry about VMware taking a constant number of CPU cycles or will it only use those that windows is not using?

I don't know how to answer that exactly. The best answer I can give is the SMP client works the same as the other F@H clients, and will use a low CPU priority. But since it is running in VMware server which is running Linux I don't know if it responds ands throttles down when windows is using the CPU, but is seems like it does. The big problem with me is the amount of memory it uses, makes Windows kinda slow sometimes. Can't run games at the same time, can't burn DVD's either. But I do watch videos, surf the net etc.

Ok for a while know i've had this little problem. My system shows that i have only completet 16 WU and that there are 2 or 3 stuck in the system and can't be sent out. It's been like this for a while. Now the Stats page on line shows i've completed 22 WU. The stats page is correct but why isn't my system reflecting the same numbers. It's causing some small isues on my system. I can't get on line for the first 15 to 20 minutes of having my system turned on because F@H is taking up the entire bandwidth trying to send out these 2 or 3 WU that are trapped. How can i fix this?

Should i competely unistall F@H and reistall it or is there somthing else i can do?

I have had a couple of WU's that just wouldn't send for some reason, they were not being recorded at the stats page either. I saved the work folder, deleted the rest and reinstalled, put the work folder back and ran F@H and it sent the WU.

I've had these two problems, and yes they appeared to happen about the same time... mid-Thursday I'd say. It takes so long to load a page that I click on the link, then I go away for a while and come back to see if it's loaded yet. I don't know what's happened to the sig images. Maybe the new owners are tweaking the forumz and applying different rules to content. I don't know. For now, I'm leaving my sig as is and I hope whatever's broken will be fixed soon.

I couldn't wait anymore, it takes too long to load anything so I changed my sig for now. I hope we can get them working again, or at least something similar.

I am also having the long load times in Firefox. Probably also in IE although I haven't checked it. My guess is, that the sigs are trying to load and it has to check each one down the page (and fail each one lately) until it will load the page. It's weird. I do the click the link and do something else until the page loads method. :?

So not having sig images really sucks. There is a negative effect on the number of new users on the team, there have not been any new users for four days. Anybody have any ideas on how to get them back?

Yeah... I've noticed some drop in the points/day. I think the sig images were a great thing. I wonder why they got rid of them. Was it a terrible load on the servers?

I think some drop in ppd is happening with the new SMP WUs as well. I think Stanford is realigning the amount of points they're awarding, as I've noted in the past that there's no point using the GPU client if you have a dual-core processor: the SMP one far and away produces more points. Now that may have been switched around, depending on what the researcher's priority is. I don't know what new GPU WUs are providing in terms of ppd, but the last two WUs I got, projects 2608 and 2609, were about a 50% and 30% reduction in ppd from projects 2604 and 2605.

Maybe the SMP client is going to be moving out of beta... that would mean that SMP users will no longer be rewarded a bonus for using experimental and unstable code.

Thats a shame about the SMP. I think eveyone should buy an R600 when they come out and our PPD will go through the roof... maybe.

I thought I put a post up to say I've just finsihed 40000 points and I'm now in the top100.

It looks as if belvdr was hit hard by the SMP thing as his ppd as gone down from 13000 to 8000 ppd.

On the up side to get in the top 20 users list now you have to be folding at least 700ppd I think thats pretty impresive. Thats up from about 400ppd.

Happy Folding

Hi all,

I miss my signature, and I've been thinking of some ideas of getting them back for us all, but I might need a bit of your help.

What I'm thinking about doing is looking at the possibility of a PHP/MySQL combined script hosted on my server that will visit our signature links from the source, save them as a PNG file and upload them on my server every 2 hours.

Now, I only know a bit of PHP/MySQL, enough to do the jobs I've had to use them for in the past. Now I'm prepared to put up 1Gb space/10GB bandwidth of my web server to handle our signature images, I just need a show of hands of people who have skills in PHP or MySQL that would be able to pitch in and help pull this off.

If anyone wants to contact me directly, please feel free to email me at (knightrous *at* crystalnode *dot* net) :)

Thanks for your time!

The other option is to have someone create a sig on DCSig/LiquidNinjas that says LiquidNinjas on it somewhere but still looks like the ones you all want to bring back. Then you can all share that. The DCSig site automatically keeps it up to date for you. My sig is over there and still works.
