G'day not much has changed at F@H for a while, does anyone know when the GPU and SMP client will be a proper release rather than a beta release?

Cheers
Lyall

no ideas... doesn't the stanford site mention anything?

btw, have you guys noticed how much our PPD have increased in the last month? just getting into the top 20 contributers has changed from about 350-450 up to 800+ just to get in at the bottom

Two days ago, my Windows SMP client sent in a project 2610 WU, and my logs show that it was accepted just fine. However, I haven't gotten points or WU number credit for it. This is very strange, it seems. Has anyone else had this issue? I've read where others' WUs weren't being recognised due to servers going offline, but mine was accepted. I hope the work isn't lost because it takes three days of constant number-crunching to finish one of these - oh yeah, and the 1500 points are missed.

know how you feel..

hrmp! my stupid celeron crapped out at 71% only bcos i unplugged the kb and mouse from which was werid as i had done this everytime before and nothing bad happened.

Then the stinger - the WU was reset to 0/5000

be more careful next time...

There is an option to allow large memory users. It will allow you to get memory intensive WUs. They tend to go really quickly on the A64s. Quick (like 300+points/day) is good. Just right click the tray icon, left click configure, click connection, and check the box at the bottom left.

just convinced a friend to fold on his PS3, gonna try and get him to donate to our team... however, he's doing it only on a trial basis, he's still kinda skeptical... i may be getting a PS3 soon, in which case i'll be folding on it too... anyone know what the average PPD is on them btw?

Ara

Apparently they are around 900PPD that is equivalent to a stock ATI 1900XT. My A4000 is crap at folding only getting around 150PPD. But Yah to me cause i've contributed over 50,000 points.

i'm currently at 56,000, running on 3 pcs... formerly 4, but my bro stopped... 1 other is full time but slow (600mhz) and the last is my laptop, which only does it on weekends basically and about 5 hours a day otherwise...

anyone know how to temporarily stack up on WU's when you know your going to have an internet shortage? cos exams are coming up and i don't want to use the internet (modem) as it'll be a distraction guaranteed... i want to stack up on WU's but i've never had any luck with the "request units without deadlines" thing...

Thanks,
Ara

Apparantly the "request units without deadlines" option doesn't work anymore. I don't think you can stack up on WU's.

:trophy: Congratulations to EntityAnomly on 1,000,000 points, not a small achievement. :trophy:

thanks

Hi deadhead_matt,

I've put some instructions into a Folding@Home configuration guide. I'm hoping to improve the guide over time, so if you find there's something missing, please just post your questions.

You should appear on the team's list within a few hours after you have a WU handed in. So long as your team's number is 40051, you'll be folding with us. Welcome, by the way!

As far as optimising your folding, there are a few points in the guide. If you tell us what you're system specs you'll get a more direct answer. For instance, is your CPU dual or quad-core? Are you running Windows, Linux, Mac OS, 32 or 64-bit? Do you have an ATi 1xxx-series graphics card? All of this information is useful.

Cheers,

HotFoot

Ok I think i dowload the wrong one for my PC (I have 5.03) but i think i need 5.04? The PC I'm runing this on is an old P4 1gig Ram and XP.
The file they gave me is 4000 frames after runing for 1 hr 30 min with the Cpu on half power I've only got 16 Frames is this normal?

Thank you for the link!!! It is late so if know one gets back to me to night no big deal. But if I did download the wrong one for my PC I realy do not want to lose what I have all ready started.

Thank you all for the help and the Welcome to the team 😀

It's hard to say how well your P4 is performing unless we know the WU#. Each WU tends to be different, and each will take a different amount of time to complete. Over a long period of time, I would expect a P4 running at half-steam to make about 55 points/day. This is on the basis of the folding@home creators using a 2.8 GHz P4 to benchmark the WUs and assign them approximately 110 points/day on such a system at full speed.

Don't worry about the P4 being a little old. Many people doing folding are doing it on PIIIs and even older. The idea is that every little bit counts, strength in numbers, and so on.

it is saying it will take 28 days 9 hrs to complet the WU

now it is 4 days that is a hole lot better

Doing this really hits home mom just beat Cancer and grandma suffered from ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE and hopefully some day this will help others

What is the WU number?

You can see how many points to expect as a reward for the WU at the project summary page.

Just a guess... is it project 1487? That would be the only WU that I can think of that would be giving you an appropriate amount of points for nearly a month worth of working tiime. If it's not a WU that's worth a lot of points, then there might be something wrong.

WU# P3402 see edit from last post

Well, that WU is worth 206 points. It should take a 2.8 GHz P4 working at 100% just under two days to complete. If you've got a 2 GHz P4 working at 50%, then it should take you about 6 days to complete. More than that, and I think there must be something wrong.

I don't know if 5.03 is much slower than 5.04, but it's possible.

Maybe if you leave the computer working overnight you'll have a better estimate of when the WU should be complete. If it still says 27-28 days left to complete the WU, then I would say you're better off downloading the 5.04 client (into a new directory) and starting from scratch. The work you'll have lost will only be a few points.

don't know what happend put afther i posted the 20+ days it droped to 4 days 7 hrs so I think it was a glich or some thing you've got me but i think every think is A OK now

Thanks a lot for your time

Hey matt -

Apparnatly what you have described is normal - when you first start the intial frame will take an estimate of 1/2 an hour - hence the 80 days etc that you will get - I am not sure why this happens anyway - once this inital frame is done (though probaably more than 1 will be in the 1/2 hour) you'll get down to 30-60 secs a frame.

Sometimes when i restart later on the exact same thing happens and until the inital 1/2 hour is up you don't get an good estimate on the completion time.

I wouldnt worry about it.

rob

I agree with 2root about the time estimates the process has to run for a while before there is a meaningfull time estimate.

@Deadhead:
Do you have an HT (sounds like it)? If you do then that explaines the 50%. That is how windows reads the processor when the main core is maxed out. The other 50% is the virtual core.
The main problem with this is that the virtual core is WAY slower than the real one especially when you are running something like the FAH client that does a good job of keeping the pipeline full in the real core. You are really using more like 95% of your processing power and that is a good thing. Thanks for joining the team. Every one helps.

Does anybody have any info on when a new SMP client is comming out?

I have had the current one since March 27. That means it expires on or before May 27 and I don't see a new one anywhere.
