I had the same problem with WU backing up when I had 'Use internet explorer settings" enabled. Right now I seem to have a problem where people are having trouble downloading cores from my house. WU's go up and down just fine but any time someone instals the client here they get a message "HTTP get returned error code 0" but if I download the core and unzip it manually it works.

Older satalite connections were down only, you had to use a modem for any upstream traffic (including your http requests and such) so you were only online if your modem was connected. That has been fixed now (at least on every satalite connection I have seen the last 6 years).

you see, i know that the ISP is the problem in my schools case, there are around 20 'free' ISPs around here for modem, you dial their number and they charge on your phone bill, so you have a free choice, when i dial that ISP, i can't upload WU's whereas other ISPs i can, i've tried this many times, now i don't know her ISP as she has a shared connection, i could find out by a trace, but i didn't have time to do that yesterday. It could be her anti-virus, but when it's anti-virus of firewall blocking, and i have -verbosity 9 set, it would immediately return xx attempts made (about 20 usually) in the space of a few seconds, my school and the ISP does this, but her computer doesn't, so i dont' konw what's wrong there, i tried changing to non-internet explorer too, but we had to leave before i could try everything...

if you've seen something like this before please help out,
Ara

Been a while since anyone posted here.

I'm going to ask a question I have asked before again.

Does anyone know how to get the SMP client running on Vista (I want to run it on my brother's machine, I don't have Vista and con't spend a lot of time playing with it, he lives in Nicaragua and I live in NJ).

It works just fine on Vista for me.

Remember the trick is to install as usual, but before you run FAH go to the installation directory and run "install.bat". It's all in the install instructions on the FAH site.

When I did that I got the extra services running. Then when I tried to run the SMP client it popped a new window (I thought that was strange, but wrote it off to Vista) then the new window would give me the standard messages up to the starting run info then it never even got to the 0% line (I even left it over night) and it gave me no error messages. Any idea what I did wrong?

I'm guessing the window was one of four things: UAC, Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, or unsigned driver. I have all options off except for the firewall, I just enabled the firewall and I do remember needing to allow access for something, but I can't remember if it was FAH.

Check your Firewall rules first to see if you blocked FAH, or MPICH2 process manager, also make sure the MPICH2 service is set to automatic.

If that doesn't work try turning off UAC and Windows Defender. If that still doesn't do it press F8 just before Windows boots to get to the boot options, set the option to allow unsigned drivers. This option is something you should have set permanently for Vista to work properly with older software, or beta stuff. You can use EasyBCD, or BCDEDIT if you are so inclined to set this option permanently.

BTW, you can use "vLite" to change Vista installation options, remove components, services, set security options, and integrate drivers. Then create a new image and install a trimmed down Vista.

I was reffering to a new CMD (dos prompt type) window. I am guessing that you hit the nail on the head with the unsigned drivers part. I will try that in July when I see him again.

I'll add the awesome might of my P4 2.8 to the team! go me!

I thought my old score would switch if I changed usernames, but I guess not. Oh well I'll just start from the bottom.

F@H comp: Dell 4700: P4@2.8ghz|1gb DDR2 400| ATi X300| WD Caviar 80gb 7200rpm| Intel 915G| Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS

Unfortunately, I decided to join just as a received a 4000 frame WU that I won't complete until September 15. Crap that's a long wait!

When I get my laptop in a few weeks I'll be able to do better.

Laptop specs: Core2 T7200| 2gb DDR2 667| GeForce Go 7950GTX| Seagate 100gb 7200rpm

Can a work unit even run that long....

my sig system keeps getting told time has passed cause i only run it when i am on that system(too much power waste for 24/7). In most cases if i am not done in 7 days its not gonna let me finish it.

I got a 1million Step(is a frame and step the same?) WU on my 1800+ and i think it took 5-6 days(i dont watch it close, that comp plays music and does other 24/7 stuff)

Also, use the console client when that WU is done. its faster and does not waste cpu power on that little folding picture/animation.

G'day,

I've overclocked my AMD 4000+ processor a couple of days ago by about 30%. It seems strange but now my PPD has gone from about 130PPD to 290PPD. Just thought some people might be interested. I mainly overclocked my CPU to play oblivion but the PPD increase was a nice side effect. I'm saving for a ATI 2950XT. I should be able to afford one when they come out.

Cheers
Lyall

Has anybody else noticed how crappy this forum software is??? :pfff:

Are the new owners actually trying to shut the forums down??? :ouch:

If they are then they are going to be very successful.

You know there isn't even a reply button anymore (gonna be a lot more quoting going on so that we can identify who's question we are answering). They also seem to have turned off all the message notifications unless you go in and expesly turn it back on for each thread you want to watch.

Hopefully enough of us will come back and post to get ourselves on the front page for a while and bring peoples attention back to the team.

By clicking the quote button you can reply to another post (it looks like an envelope with an arrow).

If you click the quote button (it looks like an envelope with an arrow) you can effectively reply to any post. I do agree though that you should be able to reply to any given post more easily (and without the need to quote it).
