Hi All.
I know this won't be of interest to a lot of people out there because of the limited budget but...

I am looking to drag my ancient i5-3570K system in to the 21st century so I would have to replace the MOBO, CPU & RAM.

I have a budget of about £200 and am in the UK, I will probably go for AMD but should I go AM4 or AM5? I was going to get a ryzen 5 5600X with a corresponding MOBO (probably a B550 of some description) but the reason for choosing AMD is because the sockets stay contemporary for much longer. That being said, the AM4 is now defunct so should i look at an AM5 motherboard and 7600. I'm not sure if any of this fits my budget but I could maybe go up to £250 if I wait a couple of weeks

Interested to hear peoples thoughts. Obviously any of the cpu's mentioned above will be way above the i5-3570K, I also considered the I5-12400F if I'm going to get a defunct socket anyway.

12th gen is pretty competitively priced, and DDR4 is a lot cheaper.

AM5 is outside even your expanded budget.

12400 to get you onboard graphics, since you did not mention having a GPU.

Thank you for such a quick response. I'm currently running a RX580 which will probably struggle with any of the upgrades mentioned but I've got to start somewhere and I'm currently playing modded Minecraft so I think a CPU upgrade is a higher priority. I'm not sure about a Micro ATX MOBO. I think I need full size for my case.

Micro ATX board will fit in an ATX case.

You really only need an ATX board if you plan on adding things to the computer beyond a GPU.

RX580 won't struggle in anyway, whatever limitations it has now will remain. Faster CPU will gain you 1% lows and minimum FPS. GPU, based on the settings, changes your maximum FPS and the quality of the image.
