They're fucking charging on tiers when the best thing to do is to only charge for speed. I hope that company crumbles for doing this in the present day economy.

This is still just sugar-coating a rediculously low amount of bandwidth and adding in yet another lower tier to make it sound better, but no matter how you look at it, it didn't change much of anything for those who actually care. As I've said before: I have nothing against adding new, lower tiers that features bandwidth caps, but the current major plans should still retain unlimited bandwidth.

My guess is that the lower tier was a questionaire given to ppl who call in to TW. Geeks don't call into TW for help, grandma's and grandpa's do.

I wonder how 30% of their survey only uses 1 GB? Nice marketing.

As much as I hate to say it, TW knows they can get away with it (and they will) because a large portion of their market has no real competetion and they know that. Sure, they'll lose a few customers to competetors, but what they lose, they'll rape from their remaining customer base. I dropped TW internet a long time ago because of the absurd prices for what you get.

Getting less and paying more, welcome to corporate America

enjoy your stay*

* = stays are limited to 30 minutes, with overstays billed at $1 per minute thereafter. Terms subject to change at any time.

Nova Scotia Canada - 5mbit/250kb or so speeds, about 46 a month + tax. Extra 10 bucks for 15mbit/750ish kb. Torrent download capped at 1mbit/sec down, unlimited up. No bandwidth cap limit.

Time Warner can kiss my butt. I currently use them for internet access, but you can bet that I'll be switching to DSL before they even start this crap. They're just another greedy corporation that has to learn the hard way. (ex. banks and auto industry) Go ahead and shoot yourself in the foot TW. I won't be dealing with you again.

well i happily used unrestricted road runner for a few years.....in the US. i came to canada and surprise surprise! almost every internet provider has usage caps. and the ones that don't, use telecomm lines owned by the big ISPs like rogers, bell canada, etc. so in the end they get throttled out the a$$ and from what i've been hearing the last few standing ISPs with unlimited internet are either gonna get forced to start the cap system or pay for their customer's excessive usage (if the big guys consider it so). and the cap system is terrible. especially when they inflate your usage. one night i tested their so called usage 'monitoring' by taking a screen shot of my usage (that you can check on bell canada's site) and that night i did nothing but get on yahoo messenger. not bit torrent, no downloads, just IM. my usage spiked almost 3 gigs.....in less than 8 hours. and i've gone from a 20 gig, then to a 40 gig, and now im going to see if a 60 gig cap is enough. but with dishonest usage tracking i doubt it.

Ohhhhhhhh. So you taken action to address your customers concerns, have ya, mister Time Warner COO. And just what the fuck were those concerns? That they would like just a liiiiiitle bit more bandwitdh? Wrong. You know good and well what the hell the "concern" is. But in case ya really don't, let me spell it out for you. We don't like being fucked over by assholes like you. Clear enough?

Are you using a wireless router? (If so, I'd consider using a more secure crypt)

Also your cable modem will track solid facts in the usage department. Compare those results with those of the ISP's, and if there's discrepancy, contact a lawyer.

Thats bullshit! but where I live we don't have them we have comcast verizon and ATT and right now I'm loving fios over the shit that Comcast phone support is!

“As we launch DOCSIS 3.0 in the trial markets, we plan to offer a 50/5 MB speed tier for $99 per month.”
So what is the cap on this plan?

This is bull ****!!!!! Why give free turbo only to impose this pricey cap. What good is having download speeds of excess 20-30mb and not download?!?

Verizon FioS 20/5 with unlimited usage would run you ~50 a month. Also the tv is pretty sweet with uncompressed HD right to your tv. Also way more HD channels.

You say that TW will get away with this but I have a different feeling.I have been with TW since 1997 when I entered Roadrunner as a beta tester of the network for Portland,Maine.
Since this has started I have called them twice and was nice on the phone.both times they had no idea what their company was planning and I explained it to them. Both women I spoke to were also not happy and I urged them to "google" the info and they would see.
I also wrote to the FTC Consumer protection.I wrote to TW on the net.
I will be writing to the folks in the goverment here in Maine and in my city of Portland too.
I am telling my friends.I also play in 2 rock bands with albums out and will be mentioning this at gigs and am thinking of doing a special kind opf show for bringing awerness of this issue.Maybe even raising money for a newspaper add.
We all must do our part wherever we live in the USA.I also spoke to my lawyer friend. He is one of the best criminal and activist lawyers in this state and now he is "on the issue".We will be talking next week.
I WILL SUE THEM OR BRING LEGAL ACTION IF POSSIBLE.
They have a near monopoly here in Portland, Maine. We don't have VERIZON at all in this state.
Theyhave now screwed with me and I am the kind of guy who has always stood up for what I believe is right.
EVERYONE STAND UP NOW !!!! Let us all work together somehow. No matter what state you live in do you also have a "lawyer friend" ??? If you do then start the ball rolling too like I am trying to do.Let us all work together to either end this idea of TW or to dump them and drop em down.
Hey if you have CABLE TV then dump it or downgrade it if you can.SCREW THEM OVER by dumping any service you can that they offer even if it is an inconvenience. It will end when they lose their shirt in lost money revenue and then they will shut their greedy mouth and then you can get your other services back.
I DUMPED MY CABLE TV !!!
i will just watch free hulu video or bittorrent my fave TV shows for a while until and if they stop the cap.
Now that is what I am doing and maybe we will all do stuff to work on TW.
I am totally against this which to me is a step backward and a good way to stifle internet innovation. And of course they may be doing this because of lost cable tv revenue.
In my eyes these ISP's are becoming greedy crooks. And you wonder why USA has a bad economy !!!!

And I should also state that my personal internet bill is 54.95 for roadrunner turbo but with this cap bs my bill will end up being $150 which is almost 3 times as much.

Is there not a regulation that states how much they can raise our bills ???

This is absurd. It's not like they aren't making enough money already. We're switching over to DSL. It's the principle of not raping people in an already bad economy.

No - the PitchFork stays! We have been paying for a non-tiered service for almost 10-years, and now when the economy turns South, the only way TWC can think of to raise profits is to raise prices....? This is what's wrong with America - Greed, Pure Greed....

An alternative would be to lower prices during a down economy to help raise public interest in keeping or getting new service, then when the economy improves, you are ahead of the game because you now have a broader customer base. Instead they would rather raise prices and chase customers away. If they don't want to be in the Internet business, than quit offering Internet.

I am a TWC cable and Internet Customer in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I will cut-off my service the instant they bring it here. Dish TV was fine before, and so was DSL. I hear ATT has U-Verse coming this way, so TWC go ahead, raise your prices and lose another customer!
